Beta 12 release (01-01-2017)

  • greatly improved tab bar:
    • allow to detach tabs by dragging them away;
    • allow to drop URLs and tabs from other windows;
    • added option to show embedded tab thumbnails;
    • improved handling of visibility of close button;
    • tabs demanding attention are drawn using bold font;
    • improved RTL support;
    • decreased default tab padding;
    • tab text is no longer centered horizontally;
    • fixed status tip messages while rearranging tabs;
  • improved KDE5 and Unity integration:
    • added support for progress information;
    • added support for desktop actions;
  • several MacOS X specific fixes and improvements:
    • improved rendering of platform style;
    • added dock icon menu;
    • added support for listing applications associated with given MIME type;
  • added support for Windows jump list;
  • added fullscreen support for QtWebKit backend;
  • open file path is saved;
  • improved RTL support in address and search fields;
  • many other fixes and improvements.

As usual plans for the milestone got truncated...
But at least we finally got AppImage, Windows got more usable multimedia player and spell checking support.
One more thing, revived QtWebKit finally landed fullscreen support. :-D

Are proxies working with this build? I've set a proxy in manual mode, but Otter ignored this setting.

@Freeman, there is known issue where proxies for HTTPS could be ignored, I'm not aware of anything else.

@wutian2016, are you sure that it's HTML5 video?
I only see flash player there.

@wutian2016, I've tried it on Windows 10 and video plays fine there (HTML5), my guess is that MF on Windows 7 is missing something required to play their videos.
On this list I see only one item added after Windows 7, perhaps it's incomplete:

You can try -xp version too, it uses previous multimedia backend that depends on codecs installed by user.

It's been some time since I last used Otter on Windows, and recently I've upgraded to the latest (weekly #165). It looks and works much better nowadays. Thanks for the great job you've been doing.

@beastie, BTW, what is the current status of revived QtWebKit on FreeBSD, is someone working on port?
I think that I've seen some patches somewhere...

@beastie, it would be a good idea to bring that topic, since it's a serious upgrade over legacy version, but note that some stuff is still missing (private mode is easy to work around):

It's not ready yet to be full drop-in replacement for all use cases but should be pretty soon.

Ah, good find! I check the Area 51 from time to time but must have missed that one.

As to the question of "when", the usual reply is "when it's ready" hehe. FreeBSD developers and port maintainers are on the conservative side, so ports that big usually stay in the pipeline for weeks and sometimes months before being approved (as has been the case for the latest Qt port with WebEngine support).
Of course one can always use experimental port trees, but things are not guaranteed to work well or at all.

@beastie, sure, but this is also security update. ;-)
So once it will be feature complete replacement then I would recommend to replace it ASAP, so it could be a good idea if they would at least take a look now (since revived QtWebKit is really very close to fill missing gaps now).

@wutian2016, not yet, right now only User Scripts are supported.
I'm not sure if such tool is doable as User Script, but you can always ask authors.

firefox is more faster than otter-browser(win 7 64bit),
I don't insall adobe flash player in my system.

@wutian2016, you can try QtWebEngine build too, these are located in experimental folder, these are based on Blink engine (used by Chrome).
But note that these have some issues.
