Feedback

This Browser and its continuous development give me a lot of hope. Thank you.

I use v0.9.97 weekly 220 64-bit on Windows 7 64-bit.

Sorry if something was mentioned before or can already be done. Just say so and I will look or try to do it myself. If I fail, I will ask :)

UI

Suggestions:

1. Click on the left edge to toggle the sidebar. [see Vivaldi]
2. Single clicking in the address field should select all (as an option). [practically all browsers]
3. When managing search engines: double tap on name to edit.
4. Open private windows in the same state as the regular one (e.g. maximized).
5. Remember last place in settings.
6. I liked it when a video fills the tab waiting for decision on entering fullscreen. This should be a separate option.
7. Shorter progress bar (match the height of document progress bar.)
8. Prettier document progress bar (less bright green.)
9. Resize toolbar elements (e.g. search field.)
10. Resize text font in bookmark bar (and other toolbars.)
11. When adding actions to a bar, doubleclick to add/remove.

----
Bugs:

12. When adding actions, edit is not available until you save and reopen toolbar configuration.

----------------

Behavior

Suggestions:

13. Typing a search keyword only should go the main page of that site (e.g. typing "yt" > youtube.com)
14. Site settings by root domain (e.g. example.com for sub1.example.com, sub2.example.com,  www.example.com, etc.)
15. Site settings for private browsing (e.g. simple cookie settings for YouTube/Amazon preferences without having to set them with every private session.)
16. Option to restore defaults in everything that can be changed e.g. search engines, keyboard shortcuts, etc.
17. Shortcut (e.g. CTRL+Enter) to add www. and .com (or other TLDs.)
18. Option to open bookmarks from bookmarks bar in same tab.

----
Bugs:

19. The browser freezes and glitches in windows constantly with pages loading slowly. :(
20. Saved cookies do not show in Advanced>Content>Website Preferences.
21. When UA for a site is set to nothing, the website gets the main UA.

----
22. How to add an action to open a system directory/execute a file?

-------------------------------------------------------
The following are known issues/planned/problems with the engine, etc, but I thought I'd mention them anyway:

23. better anti-aliasing (engine-related?)
24. Memory leaks
25. Bookmark favicons (known issue?)
26. Sites local storage must be manually cleared.

-------------------------------------------------------

Thanks again for your work. :)

If I'm not mistaken by default you can use the hotkey or the bottom left icon, but try right click on the sidebar, Sidebar → Configure → Options → Display toggle button.

Single clicking in the address field should select all (as an option). [practically all browsers]
I don't think it's in the regular preferences, but have a look at about:config (type/copy that in the addressbar, like in Firefox). The setting is called AddressField/SelectAllOnFocus. Save all (in the bottom right) to apply.

Typing a search keyword only should go the main page of that site (e.g. typing "yt" > youtube.com)

Probably hard to automate. In any case, try making a bookmark and giving it a nickname. :)

Shortcut (e.g. CTRL+Enter) to add www. and .com (or other TLDs.)
Aha, a missing feature from Opera. :P

The Opera action looks like:

Code: [Select]
Autocomplete server name, "http://", "com"

When UA for a site is set to nothing, the website gets the main UA.
It's not immediately obvious to me how this is a bug?

With regard to actual bugs it might be good to check or report on GitHub.

Some websites resist spoofed UAs (for example portableapps.com), but accept no UA at all (see here). When I set it it to " " (a space character), it works.
Edit: This is about referrers. My mistake.

@browse op, thanks for the extensive list, it's surely useful. :-)

Thanks :) . I have another batch. Do you want me to ad it separately or update the first post?

@browse op, I guess that we can reuse first post, later we can consider use of some wiki page or something like that.
Important thing is to separately list stuff that depends on the backend (WebKit / Blink), since these should be forwarded directly to their maintainers.

I can see Otter grows up :) faster! Thank you, dzięki, Emdek and the Team!
What I can add is:
save the file does not show the progress bar.

But, anyway and once again, it is really fast, what is probably the most visible side - nomen omen - of any browser.

@Pref, uhm, what do you mean exactly by progress bar?
Could you please provide some screenshot or doodle?
