Agreed.

For the question/issue of ships' particulate matter emissions this depends heavily on the fuel. Ships have traditionally had no regulation, and many use (literally) dirt cheap fuel of the nastiest kind. They are belching sulphur and NOx as well, all to save a quick buck.

Electrical ships can't come too soon.

No?? nuclear ships existes since the fifties or sixties. Nuclear produces endless electricity.
A matter of attitude.

Indeed. Why use nuclear and coal and all that, when we have electricity?

There are some cases of on-site power production on nautical vehicles, e.g. sail ships. Mostly the energy is generated off-site and used on-site from an energy store.

We have half a century experience with nuclear powered ships, and that experience is not good. It is harder to come up with safe designs for an ocean-going vehicle, and the consequences if they are not out at sea is much worse.

Unless there is a strategic reason to do otherwise, e.g. obliterate the country that obliterated yours, you would be better off using electric energy from land-based nuclear power plants. They are safer,  cheaper and located at the border to somebody else's problem. They are not mobile hijackable dirty bombs.

No? Why not?
Nuclear powered ships and submarines made the biggest developments for human adventure discovering the world.. Do you have anything better?
Course mobile vehicles such as those can't use land based power producing.

Any story invoking "Ansaldo Breda" is unlikely to have a happy ending, though they themselves had an end, being bought by Hitachi.

The problem is not in the material to discuss, the problem is in inside our souls. People are tired of this model.
Or maybe better, we know each other already totally, there's nothing to discuss.
No new people, no motivation.

A matter of attitude.
