Reply #26 – 2017-10-25, 18:21:55 I think that the Middle Class, which includes me, are being asked to once again, for the umpteenth time since that degenerate insane bastard in the 1980’s started pushing voodoo economics, pick up the tab and pay more in taxes so Trump and his buddies don’t have to pay any damn taxes, and corporations can have their taxes cut from 39.5 % to 12.5 %. I say piss off to the lot of them. This is what the country gets for once again electing a really bad actor/ tv personality. Quick Quote 1 Likes
Re: US Economy - what do you think?? Reply #27 – 2017-10-26, 03:40:36 You do have a reasonable point there. It is unfortunate for the ex-colonies corner that the middle class who fund the place are being ill treated and strained while the corporate barons get away with a hypocrisy stance. Many of the less well off may well have voted for him as they have felt out of things for so long and what a terrible indictment for the country to vote in Trump. It may well be fine in a general principle to have a non-politician for a change but for goodness sake it is head shaking to have him as a leader and also be a nuisance not only inside the country but elsewhere.I'd suffer living in Edinburgh instead of the centre of the Universe along with a picture of the Pope. Hhhm, on second thoughts not the picture...... Quick Quote 1 Likes

Yet Trump's own near and dear and very personal Truth Social Stock is still on overall tanking trend. Can any of our bright minds explain this? Thoughts? Comments? Ideas? And what about the future? Could Trump's Truth Social merge with Elon's Twitter (less known as X)? Quick Quote
Re: US Economy - what do you think?? Reply #30 – 2025-04-18, 10:05:56 At the end of this little clip, Trump can be heard saying "Believe me." This by itself makes it all beyond laughable. But there are more serious reasons why it is beyond laughable. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2CjcXelsum8I happen to know the law. Literally the only way for Trump to remove Jerome Powell is to SWAT him. And that's going to be illegal. So the only way to remove Jerome Powell as the head of the Fed is for Trump to break the law. I'm not saying Trump cannot do it. Trump breaks the law every day, egregiously. It's a piece of cake for Trump. I also happen to know how economy works. It is tanking for several important Trump-made reasons. Again, this is no problem from Trump's point of view. A tanking economy does not prevent Trump from tanking it more. Quick Quote 1 Likes

Moody’s held a perfect credit rating for the United States since 1917.It now ranks US creditworthiness one notch below that, at Aa1, joining Fitch Ratings and S&P, which lowered their credit ratings for US debt in 2023 and 2011, respectively. Re: US Economy - what do you think?? Reply #34 – 2025-05-28, 21:35:09 Although not yet recovered, the market indices are stabilising, because the Wall Street seems to have figured Trump out: He is the "TACO factor", namely Quote from: https://www.ft.com/content/4d136adf-7e45-4ac8-937c-5151e3833e83 The term, coined by my esteemed colleague Robert Armstrong, encapsulates the notion that Trump Always Chickens Out, particularly in relation to his beloved trade taxes, and that risky assets rise in response. It pains me to admit that Rob came up with something so witty and apt before I could think of it, but he is spot on. The key piece of evidence was on April 9, when the US president “paused” the supersized tariffs that he had outlined a week before, on what he termed “liberation day”. Markets gagged on the details and he backtracked, at least in part. Then Trump upped the ante against Jay Powell, suggesting that he would seek defenestration of the Federal Reserve chair. Again, markets puked, and the president swiftly distanced himself from the whole idea. Quick Quote 1 Likes

Re: US Economy - what do you think?? Reply #36 – 2025-07-07, 14:29:15 Let's quote shit Americans say. Quote from: https://www.reddit.com/r/ShitAmericansSay/comments/1ltk0er/microretirement/ While retirement typically occurs after completing a career and saving and investing for it, a new trend is emerging among Gen Z career professionals called "micro-retirement". Micro-retirements involve taking a one to two-week break from work every 12 to 18 months. In this part of the world, at least a three-week break from work per year is everybody's normal vacation. Since 1960s at least. Is Gen Z the first generation in USA to take vacation? Is there anybody still under the impression that USA is a welfare country? (I mean a welfare country for everyone, not just multi-millionaires and billionaires.) Quick Quote

And then Trump's big beautiful bill labels it lazyness and ties maternity leave to the requirement of work. And Americans cheer and elect him back for another term. Quick Quote
Re: US Economy - what do you think?? Reply #39 – 2025-07-09, 08:00:41 Their rules are infamously very different from ours. In the Netherlands there's an obligatory 6 weeks of paid leave after giving birth, to make sure the mother recovers properly. In Belgium it's an obligatory 1 week before estimated birth and 9 weeks after birth. (That's a minimum, not a maximum.) Quick Quote
