« previous next »

at the bottom of a topic's page. I reckon they mean "previous/next topic"? While I, from the very beginning, was expecting to find some "previous/next PAGE"!
Does anybody here use this stuff as it is? For me - it's weird, so I, for one, would like the meanings to be replaced so that they leaf the topic's pages instead of - IMHO - unnecessary

I find them at the top & the bottom of every page, & the first few times I used them I found myself bitchin' & swearin' up a storm,   because I, like you, thought it would --- like in every forum I've ever been in --- thought it would take me to the previous or next page
[glow=green,2,300] in that thread[/glow], not into an entirely new freekin' thread I had absolutely no freekin' logical desire or intention in having my
cranky ass transported to in the first place!!!!!

Since my initial few episodes with that stupid thing, I've learned to just stay away.....ignore it totally

Still, why do I sometimes see "new posts" via the "recent posts" update - while the index page does not show any 'new' at all?
It mustn't be any "delays" or "overlaps", Frans: for example, now I've had such wackoness for quite many minutes, several times moving round&round along the "recent"->"mine"->"Home" route.
?

@Frenzie Thanks for the <Previous Next> fix!

No problem. I hardly see the point of previous/next topic myself.

I have no more questions to the Administrator.
I think that is time to let the Administrator to rest. He has done a lot of work.
Thank you Frenzie.
A matter of attitude.

Again!
I have all the boards on the "Index" page - while in SEVERAL individual boards I have LOTS of s! >:(
Why!?

You're welcome. The place is pretty close to where I want it now in any case.

@Josh
I suppose the "readness" of boards & topics is tracked individually?

So you can have unread topic without having any unread boards?

Thanks for the "view last post" link in the main boards. I love that feature!!!

@Frenzie

Might I suggest we have an   [glow=black,2,300]"Introduce Yourself"[/glow]   Sticky Thread in an appropriate Board so newcomers can make their first post (nice if you would suggest that when somebody successfully registers via the success response from [glow=green,2,300]DnD[/glow]), so we can all go there to welcome each & every newcomer.

Nothing breaks the ice better than a shy 'hello I'm a newbie post' ,  followed by a deluge of friendly & warm  welcomes!!!

Makes em feel at home...ya think??

.....I would also like to suggest that if you decide to make such a sticky thread, that we all (us regulars) make a concerted effort to visit this [shadow=grey,right]"Introduce Yourself"[/shadow] thread whenever we sign on....maybe put this thread on our notify, so we get a note saying there were posts there.....just an afterthought.

What do ya think?

Sure, why not. :) What do you think, Central or Lounge?

Certainly I'll do it. :)
Even more, I even will introduce myself...

Nothing better, when waiting for new "victims", than to turn ourselves into virgin blood, he he... :)
A matter of attitude.

Being  [shadow=grey,right]    Lounge  [/shadow]  seems to be all about games, so I think that[shadow=grey,right]   DnD Central   [/shadow]would be more appropriate because it's Branded by the Forum Name, & it denotes the heart of the Forum --- where most people who join up will probably be most active.

What do you think?

Yes, I agree. If you want, you can create the thread and I'll sticky it tomorrow.

How is that different?

Re: Questions to the Administrator

Functionally.
There are four main boards:
  • "Welcome to DnD!", or something like that - for the newcomers,
  • DnD Central,
  • the Lounge, and
  • the feedback board. That is except for some specialised ones - like "Browsers"&co.
    For now. I thought about a "MyOpera core" something - like for "surviving" issues, also...
    See, a "Lounge" will always be for ULTIMATE BANTER & some, the "Central" - for MATURE discussions, the specialised ones - you know... For geeks and fans, other SPECIFICALLY interested people.
    The 'feedback' - fixed for feedback; then we need a "welcome" board - in case? we're expecting more! influx. Quite much more...
    I've encountered such a structure on one or two other forums; they have certain distinct boards - 1) for newcomers (sometimes for stray people also - or it happens to be a yet another section) 2) and for "mature discussions" - people who're already settled and perfectly know what they want and where they are.

:doh:
You can assign separate moderation/moderators to the boards. I.e., the moderation will differ (the approaches) considering 1) the newcomers and their threads in the DISTINCT 'newcomers' board - and 2) that the moderation in the "settled" boards must be kept "on the full scale", you know? :P
