Soon it will be 18 years since it entropied :)

I think I may have created my My Opera account in May or June of 2001

Let's see, I had a Symbian flip phone that I first put Opera Mini on. And I still have the first touchscreen phone, also Symbian, that I remember posting significantly on the forums with. Prolly puts me around 2006 or '07. Every phone since has been Android.

I had Opera Mobile on SE P800, a Symbian phone on 2003 or 2004, and Mini on some Java-enabled phone a bit later. Opera Mobile for SE P800 was a very good version that I happily used until the phone's battery became unsustainable almost a decade later.

Funny that this thread should be the last to entropy here.

Hmm, I forgot when I signed up, must have been early 2003 or earlier. The first Opera version I used regularly was 4.0.

Okay, I guess I should chime in: Opera 6.03 for Mac....which I paid for! But, at the time, Microsoft's Internet Explorer was what was available. And, oh yeah, I liked it -- Opera, that is.
(As you can see, I'm trying Opera's browser again...:))

OMG when you resurrect like that you are  killing the entropy :insane:

I have no use for new Chropera. I used the old Opera more for email and IRC than for browsing the web, and the new one doesn't do email, except for webmail, which is a bit different thing. The new Chropera also lacks some of the convenience features of Vivaldi, so really no use for Chropera.

For a while I had mutt set up, but Opera 11 is still my main mailer and browser for this forum. For sentimental reasons, I guess.

I was just looking at the Opera forum, and it says "Joined Dec 15, 2002, 1:00 AM". So I might be confusing lurking with joining or some such.

Also of potential interest is that I hadn't posted on the Opera forums since 2014.

You were active at the Opera (NNTP) newsgroups perhaps?

I don't think so. I may or may not have read some of it. :)

Anyhow, it's not like 2001 and 2002 are that far apart.

Maybe before this place becomes completely abandoned, we should have a members gettogether irl somewhere convenient, such as Brussels? Flights are cheap right now.

Nah, I guess this place is already dead. The last chance was last year...

Can I propose Last Year at Wuhan?

Walter Williams RIP
When he was younger. he used to fill in for Rush Limbaugh regularly. I miss his tag-line, "Walter Williams, black by popular demand!"
He will be greatly missed.

What can I say, beyond stating the fact that my previous exchange was irrefutably shown to be pointless...? :)

There are conversations to which I'd like to return! But -despite the COVID lockdowns here- it's a quite busy time. (When last I returned it seemed that Howie was trying to keep the place going all by himself! Now: His snit might suit him well enough. Ah, well.) I do still check every now and then on the activity here, meaning Central.
Hope to resume being a pest after the New Year holiday...

For the second time the entropic interval increase happened here in the entropy thread, last time was message 31.

We can imagine a far-flung future, in the throng of the universal heat-death, where this thread alone is updated irregularly by perfectly well-formed and valid messages from semi-sentient Perl scripts hawking Viagra to a species that no longer exists, because if they ceased,  they wouldn't exist either. This site, long ago self-hosted off-world, would be one of the last remnants of this lost one, that apart from the flashes of Perl-by-perpetual-night remains completely tranquil. Anyway, new update.

Soon I will be on vacation too. Probably not going to go anywhere, because the covid hassle is making it not worth it.

I need to read a book that a childhood friend published. It's about her childhood. So, if I find that I am not in the book, I think I will tell her to rewrite it properly.

I also think that a Trump will run, but it is going to be a very short run, either utterly embarrassing or utterly forgettable. He won't get half as far as Larry Elder, not even a quarter.
