Utter rubbish on English town in the New York Times

There has been a recent British newspaper comment about a load of rubbish from this would-be "smart" NY paper.

They visited the English town of Prescot and said although the people were nice it was in practice lacking. They stated the long term library was shut and now a posh home -the Leisure centre razed - eliminating the public swimming pool - local police station gone - town museum no longer existing. It was all part of a thing about decline here. However the truth is this....
- Town has a new police station.
- Town Museum relocated to a shopping centre.
- A very large sum of money is helping to build a Shakespearean Theatre.

In trying to show that in Britain things were being reduced proves either stupidity or bad false journalism from a paper foreigners like to waffle about. Unhappy Prescot people and falseness in quality" press?? They people were right about being deliberately done in.

Not everyone agrees that a "Shakespearean theatre" is the best way to spend money in the community.

(goddamn it's a slow day when I look up two rj stories.)

Well two will improve things even more for you. Three out of three for dancing away from the subject!

Indeed. Also, for once an actual name, the small town of Prescot, and not "I saw on TV yesterday", so the offending article was easy to find: In Britain, Austerity Is Changing Everything

Also, why this article should cause such offence (in the Daily Mail): New York Times journalist sparks fury in Merseyside town with series of incorrect claims about how it is a 'casualty of austerity' as angry locals accuse him of 'fake news'

Then again, the place I buy my groceries is classified as a "no-go zone" by the anglophone rabid right (there was a murder at a restaurant there a decade ago). Not to speak of when a Stockholm TV team went to the tiny Swedish village (a few hundred heads) I lived for a while, to show the despondency and depression of living in the countryside.

I get the vexation when some drive-by-reporter make a feature on the ills of a place they don't know.

If "the old library building" is widely interpreted to mean that there's no new library building or location at all, then the logical conclusion might be that the situation in Britain or the general perception thereof is actually worse than sketched in the NYT piece.

Well, Howie journalism has turned to rubbish in general.
