How times have changed. I remember paying nearly £150  for just 512k of memory for my first Amiga and more than £250 for a 40MB hard drive. Now I can buy a 64GB pen drive for about £14.
Yup, I think I spent  $200 just to add 8GB HD on my first computer.

Eh, the first computer I owned had a 30MB HDD. And that was in the 2000s.  :P
My first computer was a IBM Aptiva with 2GB HD, 166Mhz, 2MB Graphic Card video memory. It was one of the best computer available at that time . Nowadays no one would want to buy a computer with a 166Mhz Processor  :D

I said owned. ;) My first computer was a Pentium 100 in… probably '95. Maybe early '96? It came with a 1.2GB HDD, don't recall the graphics memory but it was an ATi Mach 64. 8MB RAM initially, later extended to 40MB for Windows 98.

I don't even want to imagine how slow 166MHz would be. Although as long as you couple it with contemporary software I suppose it should be okay. Quite fast probably if you toss on Windows 3.

It should be fine for use as a text editor.  :D
The start and end to every story is the same. But what comes in between you have yourself to blame.

I'm pretty sure computers only kept getting slower until I acquired my first 128 GB SSD in 2012.

Right now I'm considering buying a 512 GB SSD of some sort to run next to my 256 GB SSD. It's like I'm reliving 10 years ago, only in SSDs instead of HDDs. I employ a 500 GB HDD and a 2 TB HDD for my data. The SSD is for OS and programs. I'm considering getting another because games load annoyingly slow from HDD, and because even plain Windows is just such a space hog.

It should be pretty fast on Windows 3 :D Mine was Windows 95. Not too keen about the internet at that time with a slow phone dial-up, and I was more interested in playing computer games running on MS-DOS :D

A big lorry arrived first thing this morning delivering all the parts for our kitchen. I looked in the back of it and presumed that they were making a couple of deliveries and we were their first drop off. Oh boy was I wrong, it was all for us. Can't move in my house for boxes. On the plus side, my cat thinks we have built him the ultimate adventure playground.

Haha. When are they coming to put it together?

The builders arrive early on Wednesday morning. At which point the cat will run out the door not to be seen for the rest of the day.
He doesn't like strange men, which makes us think that he has ran into someone nasty in the past when he has been out adventuring.

Yup, sounds like he had a bad experience with strangers. Either that or strangers somehow scare him away :sherlock:

Two of our cats hate strangers and only one may have had a bad experience, so who knows.  :)

It's just men that he's scared of. If the stranger is a woman then he has no problem with them. Children he doesn't even mind until they pull his tail, or even worse in his view, try to cuddle him,  :D

If only they could talk I'm sure they would tell us. My cat talks a lot but I can't understand a single word of it.  ;)

Lexi talks a ton. There are four main categories:

  • Come play with me!
  • Look at me! (I'm on top of something you didn't think I could jump on!)
  • A bug! (Or: I wish there was a bug!)
  • I made a terrific smelly poop!

Then there's also the sound effects while jumping down. Broomph! Humph!

I think you forgot one.
Feed me, feed me now or I will kill you. Maybe that's just my Bailey.

Kuma has a "meow, please feed me", but I don't think there's any death threats involved except maybe implicitly. :P

Kitchen nearly finished, more importantly electricity now back on. Yesterday was a long day, I had to read books.

The builders had to shut off electricity in your house? It sure sounded like you had a long day, I've never seen you skip any day at this forum :sherlock:

Aldi used to be junk, but they have good produce and eggs nowadays. At least over here. I especially go there for bio eggs, herring, redcurrants and strawberries at an amazing price point. They even have some raw milk Comté. Also their asparagus is way cheaper than elsewhere in spring.
The other day I discovered why the radish tops at Aldi are usually (but not always) in a somewhat beat up shape. It's a blemish on their produce section. I was just about to grab some radishes when this old lady walked up next to me, carrying a bag of them. Apparently she changed her mind while roaming about elsewhere in the store, so she just tossed them into the shelf from almost a meter and a half away. I was impressed with her aim, but of course I made quite sure to pick up some radishes outside of the blast zone. And what do you know, today — I ate some for breakfast — they're still in great shape.

Hooray! Nothing wrong with reading books though. Remind me to share some pictures of our little library. ;)

Only to the wall sockets as there was bare wires everywhere. We still had ceiling lights and our neighbour kept us going with hot water for making coffee. Food was only a phone-call away to our local takeaway.

I know. I should really have said, I had to read more books than normal.

That was nice of your neighbor. Could've been worse if you couldn't  get coffee anywhere all day :sherlock:
