My wife doesn't care. She acquired a red "Belgium" tank top, 'cause she thought it looked good. Well, and also because she likes Belgium. But not because she likes football.

That seems perfectly logical to me.  :D
The start and end to every story is the same. But what comes in between you have yourself to blame.

You might want to watch it on YouTube so it won't kill the bandwidth on this forum.
Embedded YouTube videos aren't routed through the forum or anything; it's quite safe to watch them right here if you so desire. ;)

Here's the full match between Argentina vs Chile Finals on youtube if you're interested
Ooh! Thanks a lot bud. It will give me something to watch while, my wife is watching the tennis.

Good to know

Argh darn it, it's in Spanish! Sorry about that Luxor, I haven't watch that particular video so I couldn't tell it wasn't in English

No worries, it was slightly less irritating than the commentators we get here.
Good enough game though, both teams had there chances to win it but didn't put the ball in the net. Tough to lose on penalties, but someone has to lose.

Oh and that was never a red card and sending off in my opinion. Maybe the result would have been different if not for that.

I had watch a highlight on that game from Youtube, and the commentators from USA made the highlight sounds like it was some kind of a talent show

You should have watched the Spanish one then.  :P
Sometimes get league matches in Gaelic here, can't understand a single word of it but I still watch it.

Spanish commentators are probably better than Americans when it comes to soccer. I remember watching a game and the Spanish commentator shouted a long "!!goaalll!!" 'till he almost ran out of breath. :D

I think I have seen the same, can't remember what game it was though.

It must be common for Spanish commentators to shout a long "!!goal!!" especially when their national team scores :D I don't know how well Gaelic commentators are, but American soccer commentators are probably one of the worst. I was watching a soccer game once, the Forward player was about to score but the American commentators were having their own chit chat about NFL (American football league)

I don't know how well Gaelic commentators are
I have no idea, they could be giving me a recipe for doughnuts for all I know.

Similar thing goes on with the English commentators at times. They manage to squeeze in chat about England winning the world cup in 1966, during matches that England aren't even involved in.

 At least it's less annoying because you've no idea what they're saying :D I much rather listen to Gaelic or Spanish commentator and not knowing what they're saying, rather than listening to American commentators having a chit chat about NFL when a player is about to score during a soccer game :D

I wouldn't be surprised if they chat on something similar during rugby matches :sherlock:

Thankfully most of the rugby commentators are a mixture of Scots. English, Welsh and Irish. So the chances of that happening are nil.

I recently watched a couple of rugby matches, not sure if the commentators are Scots or Irish but they were very focused into the games and did an excellent job as commentators

They know their stuff and are very passionate about their rugby. Most of them have been playing the game since their schooldays, so it's probably all they know.  I knew one from my schooldays and it's definitely all he knows. ;)

I can relate that with NFL commentators. I know one commentator who was a Quarterback before he retired, so he does an excellent job since he knows NFL inside out.

Talking of sports. I see Lionel Messi has just been handed jail term in Spain for tax fraud.  :o
Wonder if he will actually go to jail? I doubt it myself.

What the heck is a brilliant player like Messi would want to mess around with tax fraud? What will Barcelona and the entire Spanish football league are going to do with Messi in jail for almost 2 years? :eyes: Yup I wouldn't be surpised if Messi can get away from the jail term.

Messi intend to retire from Argentina national team. Not a good idea in my opinion. People in Argentina may criticize and say something like "He is playing for Barcelona but he won't play for his own National Argentina team. "

Well he is 29 years old and will be 31 come the next world cup. If he was a goalkeeper he could play at that level for a few more years, but in his position it is maybe better to step down now and make way for a younger player.

That's probably true. It could be too frustrating for Messi if he couldn't give Argentina the Cup a 3rd time when there is so much expectation on him.
