There is an oddity in the last posts. At this comment (http://my.opera.com/jax/blog/2014/02/25/the-d-d-nachspiel#comment114695452) My Opera had been read-only for a couple minutes, both ensbb3 and I were posting when the door was shut in our face.

The post you refer to is

however the last post that actually shows is

Which led to my (mistaken, I now believe) claim that "Your account won't be reopened." was the very last sentence.

I think there was a last post 15168142 but that it doesn't display. It would be be fitting too if My Opera didn't end with a whimper or with a bang, but with a bug.

I've found out that I have a history! there!;)
"9 comments" were 'transferred' through - with the containing threads, I suppose...

Contrary to what D&D-ers might think, the Lounge is/was not the end-all of My Opera. The part that has a limited replacement, the forums, has been shut up, but is still available. Whatever I might think about the strategic decision, the way they have gone about implementing the shut-down has been fairly exemplary.

Back on topic-- well, at least sort of: I tried to see the new forums that Opera has put up. No good on Firefox, can't drag them up no way no how. Reason: For some reason, Firefox adds an "s" to "http", producing "https". That "s" is enough to throw off the system and make it non-functional. I had to use Internet Explorer, of all things, to actually get to see the new forums. IE got in and works well enough in this case: Well enough to tell me that those of us who are exclusively Loungers and D&Ders have no place there. If you're looking to find out how to make the latest version of Opera work with your system, they may have something for you-- except if you're using Linux of course, nothing worthwhile for you there.

So-- I'm looking forward to ignoring the new forums the same way they're ignoring us. The feeling is mutual now.

I don't think Obama or any President is actually in charge, much less an emperor. I don't think Bush was either. The President is merely the face presented to the public. The sheeple don't get it. Probably 95% of what happens in any given president's term as little to nothing directly to do with him. Some people hate Obama. Putzes. Some all but worship him. Also putzes. So the statement that "important threads" would be carried over meant currently active threads. Not such a bad decision actually. But change of place really means new attitude and new usership. Of course, it's a new product too. It would all have been easier if they acknowledged it from the beginning. They still haven't.

Well I tried one last time (http://forums.opera.com/discussion/1830566/looking-after-old-friends) to get a response and some sort of acknowledgement from Opera that we exist (and Vivaldi for good, balanced, measure). Nothing, so far at least, but then the message has been trampled on somewhat.

I begin to suspect it's not a glitch. A glitch might have been fixed by now, instead it's getting worse. My attempt just a few minutes ago to get to the right place-- the comments on the blog we were replying to-- was fruitless, instead redirecting as you've indicated.

I never saw an organization so intent on "flipping the bird" to its users as Opera seems to be. Even the notoriously bad outfits here like Comcast and AT&T have better relations with their users--- and that's saying something because both of those outfits have well deserved reputations for atrocious customer service.

Is it not working for you? It's intended to work just like on My Opera.

The Quick reply box does not stay open. At least not in Webkit browsers I use.

The Quick quote procedure is like this:
1. Open up the Quick reply box
2. Select (highlight) some text from someone
3. Press Quick quote (in the corner of the same post, right?)
4. This should throw the highlighted text into Quick reply box as a quote

Ah, thanks! I can fix that.

In your forum looks (https://dndsanctuary.eu/index.php?action=profile;area=theme) near the bottom, I recommend to turn on "Use quick reply on topic display" by default. That's the default now, but it wasn't at the very beginning when you guys registered.

I'm not convinced the existence of that setting is a good thing. Perhaps I'll look into removing it.

Myself, I was registered back in 2008, IIRC, when I started to explore Internet from a feature-phone with Opera Mini. Maybe it was earlier - '06~'07? Not sure...
It was great experience!
And I registered from phone, but wasn't really active on The Site till I purchased this mini-laptop. It was... well? 4 years? 5? some such time ago.
Yup, my memory is a mess..:/
Why I registered? Not sure either - maybe for fun, or having issues? Both? To have a company? (Nah, not that time..? Hm..) I just say that back then, I already registered for "the main board" - the English speaking community.
I loved (liked) English!:D I thought "my English was good":lol: Much later, attending the University (partially a bit earlier somehow), I realised quite well what a crap was what I tried to "sell" for "good English":)
Well, the Red O site step by step became a home for me. Quite undoubtedly I migrated to the forums. Blogging - I played with that, but didn't succeed, I think...

I think that was a "smiley" that failed to make it. "Now you have ME!  :D ". The space between words got left out so the smiley failed.

English is supposed to be one of the harder languages to get right, so for those of you who are doing this as a second language-- my hat is off to you for doing so well at it. American Midwest English is my native tongue, and sometimes it gets the best of me-- so I kind of get it that it's a struggle.

FWIW, they finally got the new forums to work in Firefox. Not that it matters a whole lot, I'm hard-pressed to find reason for fooling with it. No use trying to trouble-shoot the new browser, from what I've seen of it the new browser IS trouble so shooting it seems to be the right idea.

Right now, I'm camping out on Windows 8.1 and Firefox. At least it works.

When I was there, "edit" was PARTIALLY WORKING - "partially" meaning it didn't work in Opera, for example.

While the site is seemingly simple, many of those simple functions depend on silly Javascript. Although what I don't understand is that in my testing, Vanilla seemed to work fairly well without JS.

This is beginning to look like the bookmarks situation. The company made a survey and discovered nobody uses bookmarks. The same way, I guess they made a survey and discovered that everybody has everything synced across several cloud services.

Granted, people are appallingly stupid and inattentive in this increasingly virtual digiworld. It's not at all easy to help them against their own ignorance. In my opinion, companies and other authorities and highups should do their best to educate and show good example in all areas instead of screwing people around and digging their hell deeper, but this is only my fallible opinion of course.

Looks like Opera ASA still has a browser product, namely Coast. It seems to be exclusively meant for your iThingy - yup, that's the word they use http://www.opera.com/help/coast

I'd surmise Coast is in development at the cost of all other browser products - Desktop, Mobile, and Mini. The Coast team says they've been busy. Yesterday they released version 3 by screwing up version 2 https://forums.opera.com/discussion/1833795/opera-coast-3-0-for-iphone-and-ipad

Is it a special effort on iThingies to avoid updates? Can any iThingy owner here comment on this Coast thingy?

I seem to recall that there was chatter way back when we first got notified of the closing of MyOpera that the development teams were concentrating more on the phone browsers at the expense of other platforms, so the news about the I-Phone stuff comes as no surprise.

I am a mere proletariat on this great forum, and make no claims further than such. I greatly appreciate what Frenzie, Macallan, String, Luxor, Jax, etc, have all done.

That being said, I have rather grown tired of an un-named poster's persistent trolling, posting of another user's personal info,  etc, and from what I have gathered ( @Belfrager), I am not the only one.

However, I am not one to back down from any form of conflict, and while I think this might be better handled via a PM level, please let me officially state for once, publicly, that I have grown exceedingly tired of one user's trolling in particular. If someone gets tired of me trying to rustle Mr. Howie, please do let me know, as it is a rather fun sport for me but I will stop, if asked, but the trolololololol'ing I mention that irritates not only myself but others is in full seriousness. That shite needs to stop. It isn't funny, nor is it amusing.

I do hope this all can be peacefully resolved, but I do have my doubts about it.

To be fair, this distinction between Opera the browser and Opera the web sites and services, is one taken from My Opera/Opera Community. It made eminent sense there (at least it did to us), given that My Opera was one of the said web sites and services. Whether it makes sense here is a different question.

Presumably it has historical reasons, this forum is one result of the exodus from  My Opera, and we don't have one, but two threads on the topic (this one, and the one for the new Lounge in the new forum), as well as at least one Vivaldi thread. There is actually no universal thread on the Opera browser, but several Opera-related threads in the browser forum. Neither is there a thread on Opera the company, there wasn't at the old forum either, nor one for opera the music.

I can't really see a thread about the web site opera.com two or three years in the future, but I can see why there is one now.

I don't think whether this distinction matters is what rubs everyone the wrong way, but that it is a part of a pattern. Bateson defined information as a difference that makes a difference. Josh, with his corrections and "corrections", has showed a vast number of differences that make no difference, to us anyway. I find that annoying, but it also makes me curious why I find that annoying. Having had ample time to reflect on that I am curious no more, and we're back to it being annoying.

What isn't merely annoying, but disruptive, is flaunting the rules by trying to assume responsibility for them. What angered me most as moderator for the old forum were people who tried assume the role of a moderator, saying you don't belong here, or you are not allowed to do this or that. This applies here too.

Whoever Frenzie, in his infinite wisdom, put in this forum as his moderators enforce the rules are the only ones to enforce the rules. Frenzie, in his wisdom as infinite as in the previous sentence, has not put you in this forum as his moderator. Thus you don't make or manage the rules, but you still have to follow them. Griping about the rules you may do in the assigned griping place, which in the lack of alternatives would be in private messages to admin or moderators.
