Otter Browser Forum / Re: Otter and Windows XP
YouTube seems to be OK here, using the Flash Player rather than HTML5, but I think that's expected on XP.
The only thing that seems a bit strange is that when I right click on the video I see the nortmal right click dialogue rather than the Flash Player doalogue that I would expect to see.

Thanks Emdek, that is great news!
I'm sure all those who are still having to stick with XP for whatever reason will be very grateful indeed for all your efforts.

Otter Browser Forum / Re: White address bar
From the screenshot, Mike is using Windows XP like me.
However, for me the sidebar is now white, and the address bar, but the active tab is still grey, not white as in the screenshot.

Otter Browser Forum / Update Check No Longer Working
The automatic update checking does not seem to be working any more for me.
I have it set to check for updates every day on the weeklies' stream, and it always used to work fine.
Now nothing happens when I run Otter even if there is an update available, and if I manually check for updates under the "Help" menu, it just says "checking for updates" permanently and never goes any further.
If I look at the website, there is an update available.
Windows XP SP3.

Otter Browser Forum / Re: v166 bugs
Just another to throw in here, I've only just noticed it, but it may well be long-standing.
Although my default search engine is set to Google in the preferences, on the start page it is still Duck Duck Go, and if I try to change it with the drop down menu there, Otter immediately just shuts down!
Running on Windows XP SP3.

Otter Browser Forum / Re: (solved) No Video on youtube or myvideo
Thanks Emdek, I was afraid that might be the case, and my investigations since my post last November had actually confirmed it.
Google Chrome includes the necessary codec, and you can add one from Adobe to Firefox to play HTML5 video (at the moment anyway, not for long!) but all other browsers seem to have this problem on XP, just another symptom of an obsolete operating system I'm afraid!

Otter Browser Forum / Otter startup still not right!
The startup of Otter is still not right unless "continue previous session" is selected.
It used to always start with a really small window otherwise, now it seems to start maximised instead!
I can't believe this hasn't been fixed after all this time!

Otter Browser Forum / Re: (solved) No Video on youtube or myvideo
Still no joy here, I'm just getting "An error occurred. Please try later." on every YouTube video with the HTML5 player.
It's fine in all my other browsers.
The Flash Player does work if I force it, but why doesn't the HTML5 player?

Otter Browser Forum / Re: Otter and Windows XP
Thanks, yes that still works!
I thought the separate download for XP was only for those without SP3.
It is using an older and presumably now out of date version of QtWebKit though, which presumably will now always be the case.
As a matter of interest, both Opera and Slimjet still have forks for XP (36 and 10 respectively) that they have said will be maintained with security and stability patches for as long as possible. No new features though of course.
Slimjet 10 is based on Chromium 50, but sadly they weren't able to go any further than that and keep it working properly on XP.

Weekly #137 doesn't work in XP.
I'm getting "The procedure entry point SleepConditionVariableCS could not be found in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll".
Is that it, no more Windows XP support?

I'm just getting "An error occured. Please try later." permanently on all YouTube videos now.  :(
This is using the HTML5 player on Windows XP.
Works fine in all my other browsers.
How can I force the Flash Player to test that?

Otter Browser Forum / Re: bugs
Is there any chance of sorting out the column widths in the transfers tab?
At the moment the filename column is squeezed up really small and the names truncated, and you can't just drag the divider to see more of it, you have to shrink one or more of the columns to the right of it to do it, which is really silly!
Then, just to make things even worse, when youv'e got it how you like it the setting isn't saved. Even when you open a new transfers window in the same session it's reverted back to how it was originally!

Also, I can't believe that the problem with Otter opening in a tiny window unless "continue previous session" is selected hasn't been fixed yet!

Otter Browser Forum / Re: Otter and Windows XP
Firefox still supports XP and Vista at the moment, but no-one knows how long that will last.
Opera have said that they will continue to support Opera 36 with security patches for XP and Vista users for an unspecified period, but apart from Otter that's about it for now.
All the other Chromium based browsers will have to drop support now that Chromium 50 is the current version.

Otter Browser Forum / Re: Otter and Windows XP
Thanks guys, and sorry for the delay in responding.
I do use Windows 8.1 as well on my machine, which is multi-boot, so I'm not quite a Luddite, I still just prefer XP for most of my computer use.
I hope Otter carries on working on it, but I well understand that eventually something will force support to be dropped.
I'm just gald that Chromium's lack of XP compatibility won't be the reason!

Otter Browser Forum / Re: Otter and Windows XP
Opera have just announced that they are dropping support for Windows XP and Vista.
Opera 36 will be the last that will run on XP. Opera Developer 37, released two days ago, will already install on XP, but won't run.
I assume this is because of Chromium dropping support, which has led to Google Chrome dropping XP and Vista support in April.
This will potentially affect all Chromium-based browsers of course, including Vivaldi.
How is Otter affected by this, if at all?

Otter Browser Forum / Re: Should HLML5 videos work?
Thanks krake!
Firefox 42 plays the video fine on XP too.
I'll wait and see if anyone else has any suggestions.
Otter is far from being my default browser too (still doggedly sticking with Opera 12.17!) so it's not an immediate big deal, I was just puzzled why it didn't work.
Cheers, Dave.

Otter Browser Forum / Re: Should HLML5 videos work?
I suspected that might be the problem, although all the other browsers seem to work OK already.
Presumably they include the necessary codecs natively.
What would I need to add to get Otter to play the videos?
I already have the K-Lite Codec Pack installed, but that's the only extra codecs I've deliberately and intentionally added to the system.
:)

Otter Browser Forum / Re: Should HLML5 videos work?
Strange, definitely not working here.
I should have said that I'm using Windows XP SP3.
Is it possible that Otter depends on external codecs that I don't have to play HTML5 video, although all my other browsers play that video OK?
:)
