DnD Central / Re: what's going on in france
We all know who is to blame for the glitches during Bastille day.
Most probably Vladimir Putin had once again his fingers in the pie. :)

BTW, here is another one:

DnD Central / Re: The world in 2030
Speaking of Portugal, the country with by far the most wildfires in Europe:
"A government study between 2003 and 2013 found most of the fires are started deliberately set or are due to negligence or accidents."

DnD Central / Re: The comings and goings of the European Union
Well, it's a German IP of a German ISP.
AFAIK Germany is still part of the EU. I'm not aware of a silent Dexit. :)

As for the Baltic states, I thought they are together with the Ukraine and Poland the closest European allies of the US.

BTW, I assume you don't try to access Forbes with an exotic text based browser. ;)

I've attached two pics.
From the first one you can see that I'm correctly identified as an EU visitor.
First I get redirected to Forbes Europe. However there is no problem switching to the US site as shown in the second pic.

I flatly refuse all cookies, unless I need to log in. Now my work has become impossible, because there are demands for me to enable cookies at every turn.
One might wonder what this has to do with EU regulations.
There were sites since ages which didn't deliver content if you had cookies disabled. So they are now.
BTW, in private mode browsing, no data will be stored on your HD.

Right now, at least Forbes.com, Latimes.com, and everybody related to Oath Group (includes Endgadget, TechCrunch, and HuffPost) block EU visitors. Block as in block - you have no access.
Forbes.com, engadget.com, techcrunch.com and huffingtonpost.com are displaying fine with my German IP. Tested right now.

DnD Central / Re: Everything Trump…
There could be an "improved" and renamed Gold-Plated Trump-Is-Such-A-Master-Negotiator Iran deal for instance, and there would be much rejoicing in the White House.

I won't hold my breath. Iran is on the war list like there was Iraq, Libya, Syria, Somalia and Sudan.

Trump is only a lousy actor (clown) playing the part he has to. The script for the part (future wars and humanitarian bombings) was written by others years ago...

DnD Central / Re: Gun Control - Should Ordinary Citizens Own, Carry, & Use Firearms?
Schools with armed teachers, what a great idea! :)
US schools might become the most secure worldwide.

I'm confident that the NRA will come up with more such bright ideas.

How about the passenger self-defence act, making flight within the USA or flight to and from the USA even more secure?
I'm sure it would become a great success even among European allies.

Unfortunately, the vid is in German but even so I hope that you'll get the message. :)

DnD Central / Re: What's going on in Catalonia?
@taxista4plazas

You can read some opinions regarding Catalonia by going through page number 38 -> 41 starting from here.

As for the EU, it's basically an aggregation of interests - a marriage of convenience so to speak.
The bride gets her nice golden ring at first and in turn she has to play nice and eventually get fu**ed without her consent.
As long as Rajoy plays nice with Brussels (and he actually does) the EU doesn't care if he is a crook and the Spanish judiciary a farce.

"History doesn't repeat itself but it rhymes"
Speaking of Spain - the Spanish civil war and the European option for Franco. BTW, not only European but US option as well.

Look up for "Operation Gladio" - a receptacle of right-wing extremists and former SS vigilantes, created by NATO.
These secret armies were used for staged terrorist attacks in Western Europe, which then were attributed to left-radical groups.
Goal of the operation was to bring Europe's population on US course and to demonise any left-wing movement.
Even the German Bundeswehr got infiltrated by Gladio...

DnD Central / Re: What's Going on in Europe
Obviously I meant the same integrity and intelligence as you did.
Nope!
I didn't refer to people with a pathologic russophob obsession.
Those are special cases, better suited to be discussed in a medical forum.

BTW,
no need to thank me for reminding you about your obsessions.
You have my sincerely compassion for them anyway.

DnD Central / Re: U.S. military might…
If the USA wants to impose on the whole world its own (selfish) interests by threats, "regime changes" and military force then it has no other choice but to increase its military spendings forever.
There's only a little problem with that.
No matter how many trillions it will spend in the future, there is no guarantee that all other nations will be willing to subordinate forever.
The US leadership should be aware of the straw that can break the camel's back.

A nuclear war would be catastrophic for friends and foes - most probably for the US as well.
There will be no winner of such a war, only (happy?) survivors of a nuclear holocaust.

DnD Central / Re: U.S. military might…
@OakdaleFTL

The United States Probably Has More Foreign Military Bases Than Any Other People, Nation, or Empire in History

Can you remember the date of last time foreign attack on mainland US?

In contrast, the picture below is more recent but unfortunately still outdated and as such incomplete.

Thus the USA has good reasons to increase its military spending  continuously if it is determined to keep it that way and I'm sure it is.

If you'd ask me I'd recommend for the USA to increase its military spending annually by 20%. That's not a joke, I mean it!
There are a lot of expenses the USA could scrap by investing meaningful in the military-industrial complex.
Only two (but I'm sure there are many) examples of wasted resources:
* Healthcare
Who the f*ck has use for it? Rich people can afford their own private hospitals and doctors. There is no absolute need for the unwashed masses to be healthy or to live forever. Besides, you'll save a lot of retirement payments. :)
* Education - Rich people can afford their own private schools and teachers. The unwashed masses are predestinated for jobs you can do without much education. After all somebody has to do those jobs as well. You can't afford to let in aliens forever therefore. So far, Trump's wall was an excellent idea. :)
* ...
Feel free to complete the list. :)

DnD Central / Re: The comings and goings of the European Union
... but people in Europe should understand that "no deal" is a very real possibility and it would not take much to give that popular appeal in the UK.
People in Europe vs people in the UK?  :left:
Leaving the EU might become finalized during the next five years but considering the speed of continental drift, I'm afraid that leaving Europe will take much longer... Till then I'd consider the UK still part of Europe - geographically at least.

Browsers & Technology / Re: Firefox to become adware?
It seems that the ZDNet article I mentioned above is bogus or misleading at best.
That about:config setting is supported in Nightly, Dev, and is supposed to be supported in unbranded builds (though recently it wasn't). It is not supported in either Beta or Release. Since Mozilla developers have been pulling legacy code out of Firefox, even if supported it would break many legacy extensions.
