Otter Browser Forum / Re: Beta 10 release (01-05-2016)
@Frenzie Thank you once again for snooping through this.  The problem I have now is that the bookmarklet opens a blank page first and then opens a blank GMail compose window.  The compose window puts about:blank in the message body section of the compose window and nothing in the subject line of the compose window.  I appreciate your time and willingness to post about this here, Frenzie.  :)

Edit/Addition:
I just figured out that I have to select "Reuse current tab" in the Ctrl-F12 Preferences/General in order for this bookmarklet to work.  I have always had that unchecked/unselected previously.  Thank you so much, again, Frenzie.

Thank you, Frenzie, for your feedback.   Unfortunately, that script does not seem to do the trick with either a custom button method or bookmarklet method.  Your information is much apppreciated, however.  You taught me something here for the future at least.  :)

Otter Browser Forum / Re: Otter Browser is the best lightweight web browser
Just wondering why the QtWebEngine version of Otter for Windows is not availabe via an .exe file?  I have the QtWebKit version installed through an .exe file.  I am not sure how to deal with .zip files.  Can I have both a QtWebEngine version of Otter and a WebKit version of Otter as separate programs on the same computer?

(I find the QtWebKit version to be light, indeed, on resources compared to other browsers, but I'd like to try the QtWebEngine version since the article seems to recommend it as being even lighter on resources.)

Thank you.

Otter Browser Forum / Re: How much its grown :)
I just want to say how much Otter Browser has grown on me.  It's Shift-F2 turbo bookmarks, F12 menu, easy individual settings for different websites, and low memory footprint make me an avid user of this browser.  I think it's the closest thing to the old Opera available, using another rendering engine.  I do find it more quick/responsive and handy than Vivaldi browser right now.  Vivaldi is sluggish for me, has plenty of eye candy, but is less stable, too.  I think Otter's approach is solid thus far.

Otter Browser Forum / Weekly #81 Availability (delay or deny?)
I am just wondering if Weekly #81 is delayed or denied.  It is Wednesday here and I still see no sign of this build being available for download.  I enjoy Otter quite a bit, and always am looking for the latest and greatest.  Thank you.  :)

Otter Browser Forum / Re: Otter advantages over Vivaldi
Otter is preferred by me above Vivaldi because:

  • it has more responsive GUI

  • it renders pages faster

  • Shift-F2 (turbo bookmark) in Otter works far better than does the Quick Command feature in Vivaldi for me; the Quick Command feature in Vivaldi is not quick

  • Website preferences and F12 is brilliant in Otter as it was in the old Opera; Vivaldi does not do this as well

  • Otter opens faster

  • Otter's Full-Screen feature is better than Vivaldi's--I like the auto-hiding of tabs in Otter; Vivaldi does not have this

  • Multiple tabs are handled far better in Otter than in Vivaldi; Vivaldi bogs down with several tabs--not so much in Otter

  • Panel opens/closes faster in Otter

  • Otter is more configurable and more intuitively configurable if one is a former Opera Presto user, especially

  • GUI is less distracting in Otter

  • Otter feels like Opera-Presto; Vivaldi feels like Chrome

...more to come ... as I think of more ...

Otter Browser Forum / Re: bugs
Just updated to build #72 from build #71 and "Open in a New Background Tab" now always loads in a Foreground Tab.

Otter Browser Forum / Re: "Should I stay or should I go?"

can't believe this is even for debate

their browser is just another copy of any other webkit crap
its a resource hog ... and that forced winblows 8 flat UI is just disaster

Otter is already great, we just need some fixes from QT side

Otter is significantly better than Vivaldi here.  Vivaldi is slow and bloated!  It feels like Chrome more than Opera 12.  Otter has an Opera feel that Vivaldi right now just does not have.

Otter Browser Forum / Re: question + 1 bug

hahah I think I found what is the problem with facebook live chat
it is so stupid... and it is infact webkit engine side problem

since all your friends apear on right side in a list, dunno if its TABLE or DIV object
but
if your page zoom is so high, that that html object "gets out" of your screen, it will show
"chat disconnected" and you lose your list/object from right side
but
if you zoom OUT to such % that object "fits back" into screen, you will be presented back
with friend list and chat will work :P

my screen resolution is 1600x900,
it triggers the bug when zoom is at 127% (and above)
but works with 125% and less

When I zoom out, I can now see all that you say, but chat remains disconnected for me.

Otter Browser Forum / Re: Weekly 51 for Christmas--Regression with F2/url/enter not opening in new tab
Up until Weekly #51, I could simply hit F2 button and enter a search string or a URL and then hit enter ;whereupon, the new page would open in a NEW tab.  Now when doing such a thing, the new page opens in the CURRENT tab.  In Preferences/General/Tabs, "Reuse current tab" is unchecked as it has been in previous versions/weeklies.  (note:  Shift-F2 works by opening the new page in new tab as it has in the past prior to Weekly #51)  Thank you and have a "Merry Christmas!"   :)

Otter Browser Forum / Weekly #50 Install is lacking Qt5WebChannel.dll
After installing Weekly #50, I get the following message when attempting to start the Otter Browser:

"The program can't start because Qt5WebChannel.dll is missing from your computer.  Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem."

Otter Browser Forum / Re: Weekly 49 Crasher
It seems like Outlook Mail might be the culprit here as Outlook Mail opened alongside other tabs is consistently crashing Otter weekly 49 for me.  Otter will crash AFTER closing the Outlook Mail tab.  This was not an issue prior to weekly 49.  Thank you.

Otter Browser Forum / Re: I love this Otter Browser--it feels like good old Opera
I may have discovered the problem.  It seems when I hide the main menu by using Alt-F11, I cannot get access to the closed tabs by clicking on the trash-can icon on the far right side of the tab bar (I simply get a tiny dot when clicking on the trash can icon).  But, if I re-enable the main menu via Alt-F11, I can access the closed tab listing via Closed Windows submenu in History menu and the trash-can icon.  I hope that is clear.  Thank you.

P.S.  Qt version is 5.3.2
