Otter Browser Forum / Recommended User Agent for YouTube (dashboard, not end user UI)?
some of the dashboard functionality (edit video etc.) does not work in Otter with its default UA string.

Oops, your web browser is no longer supported. Please upgrade to a modern, fully supported browser.

I tried several of the preset UA string, to no avail; either the same error message appears, or nothing happens at all (especially with studio.youtube.com, their new dashbord)

is there a recommended User Agent?
thanks

Otter Browser Forum / Re: No more Win 64 bit binaries?
(...)
While this is not very informative, these entries clearly imply the situation is temporary.

Thanks for your reply.
Guess a little FAQ on the main page would save others from asking questions such as this.

I wasn't aware it's temporary because as you said not only the "weekly reports" are not very informative but it also it seems as the last x64 build is several months old (or even half a year?) by now.

Otter Browser Forum / Re: audio tag/format support
@mihau, this should apply to standard (MSVC) builds, they use WMF:
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/dd757927(v=vs.85).aspx
XP build uses GStreamer and bundles codecs, AFAIR it doesn't support MP3 at the moment.
hm, does this mean that it should technically play mp3 on standard Win 7 x64 installations?

actually, I noticed even the ogg fallback doesn't work here, e.g. the one from (which even plays in Opera 12.x ;-) )

http://www.jplayer.org/HTML5.Audio.Support/ is all red, too

Otter Browser Forum / Re: Otter and Windows XP
Weekly #137 doesn't work in XP.
I'm getting "The procedure entry point SleepConditionVariableCS could not be found in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll".
Is that it, no more Windows XP support?
 :awww:

have you downloaded the "ZIP package for Windows XP or later, 32 bit, legacy QtWebKit (42.4 MiB);" currently linked on otter-browser.org?
works fine on my SP3

@Emdek & co.: thanks for providing seperate packages for XP; this makes it one of two modern browsers still available on this old OS, with the other one being the now bloated Firefox; Chromium and its clones and derivates (Chrome, Vivaldi, post v15 "Opera" et al) all dropped XP support several months ago.

Otter Browser Forum / about:cache crashes on old profile/no about:plugins/about:addons
first of all, many thanks to everyone - especially Emdek - for their ongoing hard work on Otter

now, to my questions:
if I try to open about:cache, Otter closes.
- I am writing here instead of Github because I do not think this is entirely Otter's fault as it does not happen with a fresh profile, only with my 'old' one (configured w/ toolbars and whatnot). I don't really want to start from scratch, so does anyone have an idea what to do? I tried deleting the cache directory itself, which didn't help. OS is WinXP if that matters.

also, is there no about:plugins? I just realized this. how is the user supposed to check his/her installed plugins then? personally I only have Flash installed anyway, I'm just wondering ;)
unrelated to this, I once added the action "Plugins" (text entry) to my toolbar; I don't really remember what it was good for, it now seems to do nothing, is that right? or is it just my profile messed up once again

and one last question, about:addons is currently just a place holder without any function, correct?

Otter Browser Forum / Re: bugs
EDIT

@emdek nevermind my updater script is just stumbling over the -v2 suffix, sorry for having wasted your time

Otter Browser Forum / Re: bugs
@Emdek hmm despite -v2 in the archive name, the exe still says #63
(unfortunately I don't know from which mirror it was downloaded, if that matters)

Otter Browser Forum / Re: bugs
I didn't want to open an issue on github because this may not be an issue or bug at all, but can it be the version string wasn't adjusted for weekly 64 on Win32?
the "about" box says #63. I tried the .7z from two different mirrors to make sure it wasn't the user's (my) fault.

Otter Browser Forum / Re: RSS Feeds Style
please do not add this, or make it an option to disable by the user

I just spent time searching the web on how to disable this stupid feed preview in Opera 12; I'd rather see a prettyfied xml tree and a button in the address bar.

Otter Browser Forum / Re: Otter updater for Win 32/64

Your archive is bad formed. LZMA is not a standard compression method for .zip container, AFAIK. Please use standard compression methods in zip, or switch to .7z container to continue using LZMA.

not quite, according to Wikipedia it's in the specification for zip since 2006
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zip_(file_format)#Version_history
Quote
6.3.0: (2006)[14] Documented Unicode (UTF-8) filename storage. Expanded list of supported hash, compression (LZMA, PPMd+), encryption algorithms.

today I made a self-extracting version that should work pretty much everywhere

Otter Browser Forum / Re: Otter updater for Win 32/64

can't extract content with WinRAR 4

as Freeman recommended, please try 7-Zip (it's free and open source) or other modern tools

sorry for the inconvenience - future versions will come as a self-extracting archive (.exe)

also, this is very strange:
according to this, WinRAR supported the compression method LZMA2 from version 3.90 onwards (the zip is compressed using LZMA v1)

Otter Browser Forum / Re: "Should I stay or should I go?"
please stay.

while it is indeed sad that Vivaldi haven't contacted you, no amount of money can buy the dedication you put in this project.
and in addition, you never know how long that new company will even exist or care about its' new product.

by the way, none of the articles I read mention if its open or closed source, or even the license their browser stands under.
I take it it's free, but closed soruce? wonder how they want to make money.
