The Lounge / Re: Random Chat

Actually, there are several states that allow medical marijuana, but Colorado and Washington have completely legalized it, like tobacco or liquor. No Dr.'s note needed... :D

Oh wow, really? Hmm...nope, I'm not a fan of smoking pot so I'll just stay here in Minnesota. :D

And it so happens Minnesota is a medical marijuana state. Kinda strict about it though, so unless your nausea is cause by the conditions described in the law, I'd say contact your local dealer, make sure you have some incense and self medicate in the privacy of your own home (as opposed to a bus stop or some such silliness)...

Minnesota
SF 2470  (200 KB) -- Signed into law by Gov. Mark Dayton on May 29, 2014
Approved: By Senate 46-16, by House 89-40
Effective: May 30, 2014
Approved Conditions: cancer (if the underlying condition or treatment produces severe or chronic pain, nausea or severe vomiting, or cachexia or severe wasting), glaucoma, HIV/AIDS, Tourette's syndorme, ALS, seizures/epilepsy, severe and persistent muscle spasms/MS, Crohn's disease, terminal illness with a life expectancy of under one year.
The commissioner will consider adding intractable pain and other conditions, and must report findings no later than July 1, 2016.
Possession/Cultivation: The Commissioner of Health will register two in-state manufacturers for the production of all medical cannabis within the state. Manufacturers are required to ensure that the medical cannabis distributed contains a maximum of a 30-day supply of the dosage determined for that patient.

"Medical cannabis" is defined as any species of the genus cannabis plant delivered in the form of (1) liquid, including, but not limited to, oil; (2) pill; (3) vaporized delivery method that does not require the use of dried leaves or plant form. Smoking is not a method approved by the bill.

And if you're in Colorado or Washington, pot is legal and very good for nausea. Of course if you're not in either state that doesn't mean it's not attainable, but there varying levels of risk...

 Nope, I've seen people getting arrested while smoking pot at the bus stop. So that wouldn't be my choice :D

Well, I certainly wouldn't recommend smoking it at the bus stop; doing that takes a special kind of stupid. They must have been on drugs or something... ;)

A day to call in sick from nausea  :ko: What was it that helps...is it ginger & tea? :left:

Plain white rice can be helpful too. And if you're in Colorado or Washington, pot is legal and very good for nausea. Of course if you're not in either state that doesn't mean it's not attainable, but there varying levels of risk...

If they have a policy of charging patients for last minute cancellations, I'd say he owes you a freebie...

We have an NHS here, we don't pay for appointments, only for treatment. Used to be with a private dentist though and if the same had happened there, then that subject may have just propped up in conversation.

Ah, forgot you have that "horrible", "evil", "freedom destroying" socialized medicine...

The Lounge / Re: Random Chat

Was the entire clinic closed? If there was an assistant or receptionist working I'm surprised your dentist didn't call and ask his receptionist to cancel all his appointments for that day.

Oh the clinic was open, plenty receptionists in the place too. Conversation went something like:-
# Did no one call you?
# No!
#Someone should have called you.
# You think!!!

If they have a policy of charging patients for last minute cancellations, I'd say he owes you a freebie...

Seems Vivaldi has launched their new browser. Anybody had the chance to take it out for a spin yet?

Maybe you're a latent optimist... ;D

Well, I'm a glass half full type of guy normally. So maybe you're not far off the mark there.
But really, it shouldn't be difficult to actually get it right. Don't know how it works for you guys over there, but here you get a phone call or text message to notify you that your broadband order is now complete. So you plug in your router and off you go. That would have been the case for me, if only they had put in the correct user name. At least I noticed it and didn't have to give them a call to sort it out.

Yes...sounds fairly idiot-proof. But never underestimate the determination of idiots...hehehe...

The Lounge / Re: Random Chat

Just change over to a new broadband provider today.
It should have gone smoothly, but they had the wrong details in the router they supplied.
Fortunately it was the first thing I noticed, so all good now.

You expected a smooth change-over?

Well, so long as you're keeping an open mind about it...  ::)

Sorry bud. But watching movies will never be high on my list of priorities. Doubt it would even make it on my list of things to do.

I should know by now that Luxor prefer reading a book rather than watching a movie. :sherlock:

Hmmm...perhaps if he were to read the books while watching the movies...;)

I'm still trying to figure out how Peter Jackson managed to take a lengthy book trilogy and keep it a trilogy in movie form, but the prequel...the shortest of all the books...got stretched out into a movie trilogy. Methinks sir Jackson may wield some dark magicks... :wizard:

And Luxor, you may actually like the Lord of the Rings movies. Mr. Jackson did a very good job of recreating Tolkien's rich environment...

Hmm...
Scottish independence doesn't pass, and in less than a year there's a Scottish Doctor Who.
Hmmmm...
Gotta wonder if there was back-channel dealings going on back then.
Just sayin'...

' At the end of the year the curtain that seals our world from the underworld may be open for a mere few seconds.....

'On this joyous day, humans happily indulge themselves with feasts, festivals, and vigorous fireworks that illuminate the dark skies. Posεiδοη returns to his Kingdom after successfully guarding the veil from being exposed to the Underworld. The Kingdom of The Goδs rejoice, as Mother Earth is celebrated on this New Year's Day.' ∼Syav

I suspect Syav has gone off his meds again...;)

Ah...the crazed consumerism season is in full swing here in the US. And the UK seems to be catching a bit of the bug as well. Yet another American export; you're welcome.

Yeah thanks for that.
Saw all those bampots in the stores over here fighting over a cheap brand TV and shook my head in disbelief. They must have been so proud when they saw themselves on the news channel later at night.

If folks there can still experience embarrassment and a bit of shame when they behave badly, then you're staying ahead of us over here...  :awww:

Now then, what shall I get for myself this year (since the Christmas gift I'd planned on turned out to be my birthday present to myself)? Thinking game console...PS4, to be precise...

Save your money and get a Nintendo WiiU. That and Mario Kart 8 and you wouldn't ever need to buy any other game.

I'll stick with my old Wii, thanks very much. Never really got into Mario Cart, though a friend of mine is a big fan and will probably get the U. He's played them all so he's not likely to miss out on the latest.
Did go ahead and order the PS4 Grand Theft Auto 5 bundle, though. Think I'll spend the day in true gamer fashion; playing on my PS2 and having pizza delivered. Life is good...

Sorry to hear about your friend's cancer diagnosis. Another sucky thing about getting older; friends start dropping with increasing frequency...:(

Well, as an early Christmas present to myself, I bought a 40" Roku TV for my office. When I had first checked several weeks back, Amazon showed that delivery would take one to two months. When I checked back more recently, they couldn't give a delivery date as they were out of stock.

Got the notice yesterday that it will be arriving on Wednesday (coincidentally my birthday), so I guess it's my birthday present to myself!   :hat:  Thought it was very nice and uncharacteristic of me to do that. I usually just ignore myself on my birthday...

21 again?

That guess is not even half-way there...

Now I need to figure out what I want for Christmas. What a pain, as I can be very difficult to shop for...  :irked:

Try buying something for my wife, then you can complain.

I don't think it would be appropriate for me to buy gifts for your wife...;)

True. But we're all familiar with you, Luxor, so it's not so bad...  :))

I'm not nuts, I'm on medication.

On medication? For being nuts, perhaps...;)

@ Syav

Just tried my honey flavoured tobacco and it's a bit disappointing.
It has a nice aroma, but that's about all I can say about it. Don't think I will be making it a regular purchase.

Honey flavored tobacco? I have to wonder what burning honey would taste and smell like...

The only thing I look forward to is Christmas sale

On-line or in store? I like a bargain, but I can't be bothered going round the shops during sale time. It's absolute mayhem.
Sitting here clicking a button for bargains on-line, is a much better way to do it.

Online is the only way to go, especially for holiday shopping. People are absolutely nuts around the holidays.

Well, Halloween's over.

Everyone have their Christmas decorations up yet?  :irked:
