Otter Browser Forum / [weekly171] Facebook feed (JS/AJAX)
Facebook feed became unusable with latest build, feed losts it's position and jumps to somewhere else, when I scroll down it via mouse, hover mouse over some links and/or click to "Read more...". Are these JS/AJAX issues?

Otter Browser Forum / Build 165 has performance problems
When surfing sites, sometimes Otter sleeps for a second or two, on sites like Twitter or LiveEdu.tv. Look like problems with multithreading and/or event handling. Build 163 didn't have these problems.

Otter Browser Forum / Blank page on ikus.pes.spb.ru
On the site of Petersburg Electric Power Network, when I try to enter to customer account, Otter displays a blank page. Same result with Opera 12.18. But, using Firefox, customer account is fully functional. Is there Firefox' miracle or just Otter's issue?

Otter Browser Forum / Speed dial on private tabs
In last versions of Otter, when I open a private tab and then click a speed dial widget on it, page will open in normal, non-private mode. Some older versions of Otter didn't reset private mode when clicking on speed dial.

Because of it, I have to enter twitter.com manually in address bar, when I want to post from another Twitter account.

Otter Browser Forum / No 1080p and higher resolutions on YouTube
HTML5 video and fullscreen work fine in latest beta, but only in 720p, unfortunately. No 1080p and higher resolutions on YouTube. In contrary to, Opera 12.18 supports only 360p, but with Savefrom.net extension I can download 1080p and AAC separately, then successfully watch them via MPC-HC, so the problem is not in video itself. Any thoughts?

Is this absence of codec like in Opera/Presto, or issue of video/audio separation on YouTube?

Otter Browser Forum / Tiled popup panels are too annoying
I'm talking about popup panels using for password wand, popup blocker, search tab and tab bar in full-screen mode. All of them, displayed in tiled mode, causes page to twitch and breaks aspect ratio, which is very annoying, as for me. I often use search to find a link from a list, and often click to a link above I found, because tiled panel disappears, causing page size change.

Please display popup panels overlapped and/or add option to configure it.

Otter Browser Forum / Blurry text with QtWebEngine
Among other issues, Otter displays blurry text with QtWebEngine backend on my Windows 7. This is not ClearType on/off, ClearType is always on, but seems like Blink uses own algorithm or ClearType settings, giving more blur as result. But WebKit-based Otter gives the same anlialiasing as the system itself, Opera 12 and Firefox, which makes it usable.

This is not just Otter problem, QupZilla-QtWebEngine has it too. If QtWebEngine is the future of Otter, I afraid to that future.

Otter Browser Forum / What about SVG support in Otter?
I'm using Otter as regular browser for intranet. Out site uses SVG to draw diagrams. Otter has problems with positioning inline SVG objects, unlike Opera (on the screenshots).

AFAIK, Opera uses own SVG renderer. Don't know about Otter. Is this WebKit issue, Otter itself, or third-party libraries?

Please briefly describe localization procedure using Transifex:

  • How often localization updates from Transifex, on every build or not?

  • What rights can I have to edit translated and reviewed strings on Transifex?


Entering localization team this winter, I've installed QtLinguist and edited translation, then built a local copy, worked fine with my Otter. But when I tried to upload my translation to Transifex, I got too many errors and postponed my contribution because of it.

Otter Browser Forum / Issues with single key shortcuts
In the weekly build #71 Ctrl+Left and Ctrl+Right shortcuts won't work in text areas. That's due to new feature, single-key shortcuts. I disabled it via about:config, but then F5 won't work. Any suggestions?

Otter Browser Forum / Otter advantages over Vivaldi
Because Otter is single-process browser, it's his general advantage over Vivaldi. Multiprocess browsers are for buggy plugins and to avoid memory leaks only, as I think. Reliable browser should remain single-processed, getting benefits on speed on memory usage. Before Otter, I didn't know that single-process architecture is available on WebKit engine. On my home machine with 1 GB RAM, Otter uses 2-3 times less memory than Opera 12.17. Bravo!

Minimalistic, system theme based interface is second advantage, as for me. Current Vivaldi alpha doesn't have Bookmarks item in his menu, but Otter has. For the first time, I'm ready to use classic bookmarks only, unless personal bars not yet implemented.

When "mouse gesture down over link" and "scroll tabs holding right button" gestures get implemented, I could try to migrate completely to Otter. Oh, also urlfiler.ini and user.css are needed.

As for now, I'm using Otter to surf on Vivaldi forum. :D Big thanks to Otter developers!
