Otter Browser Forum / Re: Why can't I close this popup?
Well, now... That seems to have actually stopped the damned thing from even showing!

I cleared all cookies and went into the site and it seems brilliant!

I'll try, again, first thing tomorrow and confirm that this is sorted (Or not).

Thanks! Send thank to Baja, too, would you?

Ah. Maybe I set them all to block, then, straight after I installed it.

That apart, I now use Otter as my default browser, although I still use Opera 12, for my e-mail client.

It's rather sad, really, if you imagine just what Opera could be, now, if they hadn't sold out...

If it helps, this seems to be the block of code controlling that area:

I've tried systematically disabling things in the "Content blocking" section and they've had no effect, sadly.

Patience is, probably, my only virtue. ;)

The content blocking is as it is "Out of the box", as it were.

I hadn't thought about twiddling with that stuff, to be honest. I'll mess around do some judicious tweaking, there, to see if anything cures it.

Naturally, if it does, I'll report back.

Ta, Emdek!

Otter Browser Forum / Why can't I close this popup?
Only weirdy I have, with Otter, thus far.

On this page:

http://www.independent.co.uk

they have an annoying "Disable your ad-blocker" popup. (Ha, right. If they removed all the trackers that they have, I might do.) It only seems to appear on a first visit).

I can't click on the "X", to close it, for some reason. Is there a setting I've missed? I get it on a number of news sites. Probably all owned by the same group.

Any help, pretty-please?

Browsers & Technology / Re: Vivaldi Technical Preview Released
It was silly, really. Opera was the only browser I ever used, other than for testing purposes. But, they killed it, as Mozilla are doing, to Firefox. I used that way back when it was Firebird. As many have noted, if we wanted to use Chrome, we'd get Chrome.

This killing off of addons that a lot of people rely on, they're just gonna get people sticking with the old version, security risk or no. I'm the same with W7. I tried W10 and abhorred it. Then, just by using Windoze updates, they forced it on a lot of people. So, we all disabled updates. Again, sod the security risks. After all, many deem W10 to be a security risk, in itself.

I get around that, now, by using WSUS Offline Update.

Otter Browser Forum / Re: Tabs. As with Opera12, can I get them to the bottom?
Vivaldi always said they'd get an e-mail client built-in. Sadly, I can't see that happening. :( I use Viv for sites that Opera 12 can't display. I have to say, I'm impressed with this Otter, so far. It's damned quick on most sites I've been to.

As I did a bit of dev stuff, when with SMF, I have way too many browsers installed. Fourteen, now... I kinda like Lunascape, but that's not as breakable as I like, really. "Breakable" is code for "I like to pull things apart and see if I can break them what I can change and make better". As A non-programmer (Apart from a TINY bit of php/html), that can result in... er... fukkups.

I've nudged a few of my cohorts to Otter. But, there's a small problem, for a few. As they're not as able as some, eyes-wise, they need some themes, so that they can get the colours they need. I'm going to try and help them with some custom css files, to see if we can get around that. The skin I use with Opera is one that makes it look exactly like Opera v1 did. It's kinda groovy.

Browsers & Technology / Re: Vivaldi Technical Preview Released
Haaaa! A lot of disgruntled ex-Opera users are referring to it as "Opium", now. Their old forum moderators got dead pissed about it and banned a load of us, for that. Like we were worried...

Funny, really, as it's hardly addictive.

Otter Browser Forum / Re: Tabs. As with Opera12, can I get them to the bottom?
They suffer from the same thing that Opera and Mozilla suffer(ed). Rather than giving the members what they wanted, the member s got what the devs decided they should have. That was one of the big reasons I gave it up.

You know that Firefox is going to die an ugly death, soon, I s'pose?

Otter Browser Forum / Tabs. As with Opera12, can I get them to the bottom?
That kinda covers it... :) I've always preferred the tabs at the bottom as that's how they started when FastBrowser (Remember that?) introduced tabs to their browser. I believe they were the first to use tabs, then another browser called Neoplanet. (Yeah, I'm no spring chicken). Opera12, of course, made that dead easy, as you just right-clicked on the tab bar and selected "Tab bar placement". If it can't be done, I guess I'll stick with v12...

Funny thing, I used to be the support lead for the software that Elkarte was forked from (SMF). Small world, innit? :)

By the way, just a niggle you might want to look at... I actually registered using Opera12, as having cookies set to "Ask", makes it impossible to register using Otter. :(
