This is a testing forum 2013-11-21, 15:05:25 This forum is meant to test the software[1], the technical feasibility, and, to some extent, interest. The goal isn't presently replacement of D&D or migration from D&D. Depending on what Opera decides, it may never be. For now, it is at most a safety net. Please ask here if you have any questions about this forum not pertaining to administrative issues like forum categories, moderation, security questions, etc.[1] Does it work, do we like it. Re: This is a testing forum Reply #1 – 2013-11-21, 15:54:01 hail Frenzie!!(my first post here.. is this thing on?)
Re: This is a testing forum Reply #2 – 2013-11-21, 17:33:15 Once we work out the kinks (there's always bugs in new systems) this format seems to be workable enough. We could do a lot worse than this for sure.
Re: This is a testing forum Reply #4 – 2013-11-21, 19:19:12 I've received two e-mails from the forum sent to me by string as a test, and I've exchanged a couple of PMs with j7n. Right now it sends it on behalf of my Gmail account, but I should probably set it up as something like no-reply@dnd.fransdejonge.com which will ignore whatever spam comes its way.

Re: This is a testing forum Reply #12 – 2013-11-24, 06:28:49 Quote from: BelfragerJust testing (learning BB Code)...You'll find the list of BB Codes here. The WYSIWYG Editor is fairly complete! (It even includes a pre-formatted text block tool…) How does it handle foreign characters? And it shows recent posts (in reverse order) correctly, below the edit box! (An old "groan" from MyOpera.)It seems that the Strike-out button "sticks" — but the Preview button un-sticks it!. Bold, italic and underline toggle correctly…Well, maybe the problem with Strike-out is me? Some gifs from my files on MyOpera Reply #17 – 2013-11-25, 15:42:07 And a couple of bmps: BMPs don't work, do they?
Re: This is a testing forum Reply #18 – 2013-11-25, 17:39:21 I should hope not. They're gigantic. But you can always link to them.
Re: Ability to post BMP Images Reply #19 – 2013-11-25, 18:42:58 @FrenzieJFYI......BMP files will work.....I just tried a 2+mb 1024x768 file, & on Preview it worked. I have no doubt that it would have posted if I chose to send it. You might want to see if you have a way to limit BMPs by size, or if not, totally eliminating the ability to direct post them at all. This can pose way more bandwidth grief to the Forum than any posted youtube video, whereas the BMP file auto-loads, & the video is just a visual container that loads its payload only upon the request of the viewer. It has just as much impact of any other mid-sized IMG file. Last Edit: 2013-11-25, 19:16:10 by SmileyFaze
Re: This is a testing forum Reply #20 – 2013-11-25, 19:55:51 I mostly meant that I have no interest in creating a video bbtag myself, while I will personally implement or modify a proper quick quote feature if migration actually becomes necessary.I took a quick look around and I suppose this premade addon might do:YouTube bbcode:[youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4eIDtwcFXcI[/youtube]Just a link:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4eIDtwcFXcIWrapped in url bbcode to prevent embedding:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4eIDtwcFXcICode: [Select]YouTube bbcode:[youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4eIDtwcFXcI[/youtube]Just a link:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4eIDtwcFXcIWrapped in url bbcode to prevent embedding:[url]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4eIDtwcFXcI[/url]I'm not a big fan of the automatic link functionality though, plus I think a video bbcode with YouTube support would be better (i.e. more universal/extendable). I'll leave this one up for a bit to see how it works out.
Re: This is a testing forum Reply #21 – 2013-11-25, 20:18:41 That's odd,,,,,I was testing using the PREVIEW facility, when it posted....without my doing so!! I saw a Flash code, & not knowing I thought it may readjust the size of the embedded container.....it didn't...Cest la vie
Re: This is a testing forum Reply #23 – 2013-11-26, 08:18:30 Quote from: j7n on 2013-11-26, 03:05:09I'm with Frenzie against video from that particular site. Threads with these embedded flash windows are unbrowsable memory hogs. Even when I'm interested in one post, I am forced to load most of the embedded players. You should use Opera's plugin on demand functionality. Besides not filling up the forum pages, this little test above taught me some other things: I can c/p regular links (or add an item to my right-click menu or some such) to open them in a proper video player, or to process them with a script. VLC comes with YouTube URL support baked in. Plus if you load it in a text-based browser you only get an iframe. This means a proper video bbcode should stick the URL underneath the video. In summary, it looks like I'd have to write it myself to get it right, but like I said before it's not a problem I'm especially interested in solving.
Re: This is a testing forum Reply #24 – 2013-11-26, 09:02:09 You convinced me; I disabled this particular add-on. I would advise people who like embedded videos to utilize a userscript like Videoembed.
