Otter Browser Forum / Re: Bookmarks

@djgl, how many entries they have (more than one hundred etc.)?
There used to be issue with file being updated each time, which could cause such lockup in some conditions.

Probably over 1000, could be a lot more. The adr file is 3600 KB.

From what I have read in other Opera forums this is quite common.

Otter Browser Forum / Bookmarks
Noticed in the latest Win version that there is an option to import bookmarks direct from Opera. Unfortunately Otter crashes or rather freezes when trying to import. Left it for around 5 minutes but nowt happened. Task Manager showed it using 25% CPU.

Otter Browser Forum / Re: Adblock for Otter
I did have a look under Tools menu and there is Content Blocking but it list various languages so thought that was not it. There is an edit option but that is greyed out.

I am using version 0.9.03 notified today.

Windows 8.1/64

Otter Browser Forum / Adblock for Otter
Is there an AdBlocker for Otter. In Opera 12 I am using Adblock. Is this compatible with Otter, or is there some other available. I don't want to get into writing scripts.

Otter Browser Forum / New versions
I get notifications of an update available from Sourceforge but when I look at the About in Otter there does not seem to be any difference from that in the current version. Or am I missing something?

Otter Browser Forum / U Tube errors
Not a big deal but for info I am finding that Otter crashes when loading or coming out of a U Tube video. Does not happen everytime. The error is quoted as memory issue.

I am running it through Sandboxie which may have an influence. Also using Win 8.1

Otter Browser Forum / Re: Search engine not working correctly
Thanks for your explanation and for increasing files sizes. I am aware of the file sizing but was not getting what I thought was meaningful into 15 kb.

I am now enclosing the screenshot, but also now realise that the change in search tools when you use Google for a particular country ie. google.co.uk etc. gives the option to go to the country or the world.

I have edited the "Manage Search Engines" to be google.co.uk so that now works although it is in the left column. The way Google have designed their search bar, clicking on "Search Tools" does not take up any more vertical space.

Sorry for taking up time here as I seem to have resolved the problem.

I have noticed that in Opera 12 you can add county specific search engines and it will add the correct parameters. Maybe this could be added to Otter to make life simpler?

Otter Browser Forum / Re: Search engine not working correctly
I am using the search bar on the top right of the screen.

First screenshot is from Opera 12 and the red arrow shows the button to press, which then brings up the second line, green arrow, and the option to change the search country.

In the second screenshot from Otter these options are missing.

Unfortunately I cannot get the screenshots down to 15K so have had to zip them

Otter Browser Forum / Search engine not working correctly
I use Google since it usually gets the answers I need.

Using the Google search engine as setup by Otter it does not bring up the Option to search in the UK as against worldwide. In Opera there is an option "Search Tools" and when pressed I can change the country (amongst others).

Secondly if I edit the search engine for Google to Google.co.uk, when I then do a search it brings up the local directory.

Bit puzzled why it is doing that.

Otter Browser Forum / Re: Possible bug in address bar
I have just d/l the 64 bit version and seems to be running ok, but I have a query which happens in the 32 bit as well.

When I enter the address of my router (192......etc) it loads up the search engine for that address instead of connecting to the router. All other browsers I have connect to the router.

Otter Browser Forum / Possible bug in address bar
Firstly there is no Paste & Go for the address bar but presumably that will be added.

So the problem is that if you paste an address into the address bar. Pressing Enter then deletes the entry rather than taking you there. For now you have to remove the highlight, then press Enter and it will take you there.

Otter Browser Forum / Re: What would make Otter a Browser of Choice?

Not sure what you mean by the profile path. Do you mean this has to be added to the desktop shortcut?

If you want to have shortcuts to different profiles, yes.

Right click for properties. The "target" should look something like:
Code: [Select]

"c:\path\to\otter\otter.exe" --profile "c:\path\to\desired\otter\profile"

NB I don't have Windows at hand right now, so I didn't test the specifics.

Thanks for that - I think I have got it working. It seems that Windows still sets a profile under users, but if I delete that in users, Otter remembers what I last did. I suppose that is just the way Windows works.

Otter Browser Forum / Re: What would make Otter a Browser of Choice?

The features I miss in other browsers is with the tabbing. ie clicking on the current tab takes you back to the last used tab.

This should be done as part of #77.

The ability to store the profile elsewhere rather than on the C drive.

This is already available, by using this parameter:
Code: [Select]
--profile <path>     Uses <path> as profile directory

Thanks for the reply.

Otter Browser Forum / Re: What would make Otter a Browser of Choice?
I am currently using Opera 12.16 in Windows 8.1.

The features I miss in other browsers is with the tabbing. ie clicking on the current tab takes you back to the last used tab. I don't use the keyboard much and prefer to use the mouse to get around.

2. The ability to store the profile elsewhere rather than on the C drive.

3. Bookmarks are important and especially being able to set a Personal Bar above the Tabs. Together with that the ability to import the tabs in their current format.
