The Lounge / Re: Random Chat

I could've gone to work,  but I'm sticking with one of my co-workers quote 'If you feel sick don't come to work and kill yourself.'

Sensible advice. Besides, you don't want to pass it on to your workmates as they wouldn't thank you for it.

I wish more of the people I work with would adopt that attitude. We all work in one large, closed room, so basically it's a big petri dish! So it's lots of fun when someone who is sick comes in, starts coughing and filling that confined space with their germs. Worse still, the workstations are shared, so even staff who are not in the office at the same time as the sick person can get a dose from whoever was at a given workstation...

And for you fans of irony; I work for a health insurance company! And they won't even pay for sanitizing wipes to clean the workstations...

Sorry things didn't turn out the way you hoped,

I was gutted yesterday morning when the result came in. I don't think I've ever been so ashamed to be Scottish. But 45% of the vote was better than a lot of folk expected, so some success I guess.
Reading the statistics of the vote, it appears to be the pensioners who swung the vote. Can't blame them as it was them that were targeted by Westminster, with threats to their pensions. Though pensions were safe, they are the people who most likely get their information from the press and the TV and believe what they tell them. It's fair to say the press and the BBC are guilty of spreading the fear and the lies.
The fight goes on...

Wow...so you have Fox "News" over there too, huh? Bummer...:(

Well, my brother's wife's cat never seemed to get along with bro, and made this known by frequently treating my brother's closet as an alternative litter box.

Did you tell him that cats have impeccable taste.

It was tempting, but remember, bro was a Navy sniper. I suspect the cat found out the hard way just what that can mean when it comes to being too much of an annoyance...

So, today's the big day there in Scotland. As they say here in the states, vote early, vote often...hehehe..

Funny, that's what they say here too.

Just so long as everyone votes...

I think cats engage in an entirely different sort of saturation. Especially if you fall into disfavor with them. Just ask my brother...

I am almost frightened to ask (as I can probably guess), but I'm going to ask anyway. What happened?

Are the local networks running marathon showings of Braveheart to fire everyone up?

Not that I know of, not that I've been looking. Besides anyone that likes that rubbish probably has it on DVD already.  :P
All that seems to be on the TV is, the news (all about the referendum), extended news programs (all about the referendum). TV debates (all about the referendum), light hearted comedy (all about the referendum).
Mix and repeat until the viewer is going crazy.  Can't even escape it on the radio as it's all over that too.

Must be an American company handling the advertising. We're big on saturation over here...:(

Well gee, just kinda left us hanging there, didn't she? Disappointing..

She's a hard working mum, it's quite possible that she maybe has other more important things to attend to. I would imagine sleep is pretty high on the list of things to do, before she posts in here.

That's a long sleep though.

True enough...though I think we may have crossed over from sleeping to hibernating...

Bummer...would have loved to get some of the local versions of stuff. If you're up to it, could post a pic or two.

Ah you've misunderstood me. It's not local versions of the merchandise, everywhere is using the same stuff. What I meant is that it's only for distribution locally, unless there is a desperate call for some of it from another town. All I have is a badge and one of these....

There's a lot of them flying around the town.
My wife has gone daft though. She has pens, badges, wrist bands, stickers on her car, a shopping trolley (don't ask) and god knows what else I haven't discovered yet.

And isn't Mrs. Luxor English originally? Well, they say that converts are often the greatest zealots... :D

"Merchandise"? Did someone say "merchandise" ???  They online? Do they ship?

No afraid not, it's entirely a local thing for the town and surrounding region, most towns have them now.
The only official place to get stuff is at yesscotland and the choice of stuff seems to be getting pretty low on there now.

Have you been out there ringing doorbells?

Let's just say I've been doing my bit to help the cause. I can even claim to have turned a couple of no voters into yes voters.
There is a local yes hub that my wife has been to a few times and they can't keep up with the demands for yes merchandise, like window posters, badges, flags etc. Something's happening and it's beginning to get very exciting.

Oooooh lovely. Nixie has discovered...and now lost...a mouse.

Another notable difference between Nixie and Clint; Nixie sees a mouse and thinks "What a cool TOY!". Whereas Clint sees a mouse and thinks "What a cool SNACK!"

Sorry Nixie, I fear you'll never be in the same mouser league as Clint...

To her credit though, she is dutifully camped in front of the spot where she lost it. With any luck, the mouse is foolish enough to think it's safe to leave and this time I'll succeed in performing a catch-and-release...

LATER THAT NIGHT:--------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, mouse didn't know when he had it good and ventured out from its hiding place. Unfortunately for it, Clint was back on duty...and dutifully made sure to consume his "cool SNACK" in front of me.

Honestly, I don't know which form of his bragging I prefer; leaving me the "trophy" on the floor, or his "Watch me make it disappear!" approach.

Regardless, his reputation as a first-class mouser is secure...

I love peanuts, but peanut butter I just can't stand. Weird I know, it's one of life's mysteries.  :P

One of my best friends is the same way. Or is it the other way around; likes peanut butter, hates peanuts?
Either way, your particular weirdness...vis-a-vis peanuts...is not unique...;)

So-o-o-o-o...another reason to vote for Scottish independence?

We will still be in the commonwealth (so still eligible to compete in the games) if we keep the monarchy, which is the plan for the time being. Not my preference I can assure you.

But we could have a referendum in the future to get rid of them. One step at a time as they say.

I thought that you all were going to be voting on that this September? Are things not looking good for the independence side?

Which makes it twice as bad as the Olympics...hehehe...

We have the commonwealth games here too (going on right now actually). and that falls in between the Olympics. Think yourself lucky that you don't have to suffer them too. Cant abide athletics myself but it's wall-to-wall coverage here and nearly impossible to avoid as they are in Scotland this time.

So-o-o-o-o...another reason to vote for Scottish independence?

In a word, FIFA.
I bring nothing to the table during such events and the subsequent discussions of said events..

Of course, should have remembered your lack of interest during the last EURO Finals.
Only 2 years till the next one.

Which makes it twice as bad as the Olympics...hehehe...

Finally? I say phones deserve to live five years.  :P

(I hope to get to five with mine. It's currently 2.5 years old.)

That's the least I would expect from mine if I owned one, mind you that's how I feel about anything I buy.

Remember the old Startac phones? Those things were built to last forever. Unfortunately, advances in the technology left such things behind.
Actually, the Droid still works alright (and would probably do better if I unloaded some apps), but I finally just lost my patience with it's older tech quirks and took the plunge. And since the upgrade was "free", all the better...:D
