True. It was in Oshkosh, the first time I had driven in in the U.S., the first time I had driven an enormous automatic Cadillac, and in a grid-like layout of mixed two-way and one-way streets, some of which were one-lane and some of which were two-lane, which made turning left a sort of guess. A police car followed me for about five minutes. They were mightily amused.

True. Sort of.
A travelling circus passed through our little town in the early nineteen forties, and something frightened one of the elephants and it ran up our side street, trumpeting loudly. It wasn't really chasing me, but I thought it was and I outran it and hid under a house.
