DnD Central / Re: Stunts
The purpose of action movie is to entertain people, though, not being realistic. And American cars are bigger. MUCH.
It struck me when I watched an Italian movie. I thought "why those cars are so tiny! couldn't they find some decent ones?", then I woke up to get it: that was that I had just become accustomed to American settings - with their stuff comprising the auto/motor, and just forgot that there's the other world.
You see, a super-booper-agent just CAN'T use a Beetle!

Wow!:eyes:
Well, I'm not sure now, except that I could mention the ACCELERATING rate of involving heavy transport with the increasing number of Terminators:)
Remember, in THE Terminator they first used just plain cars, only having a fuel truck in the final scene barely managing to catch up with a running lady and wounded gent.
Then in #2, they already introduced a truck-bike chase, with additional yummies of the LA ditches. In the third one look -- they already had a heavy truck crane, which - with a very little help of a firefighter truck - FOR SEVERAL MINUTES DEMOLISHED LOTS of "decorations" (often using the swell pal Termi's body for that).

As we have a thread now, I'll keep in mind to notice things, ;)?

I'm not a big fan of "pavement" chasing stunts, I rather am of those highway/junction ones - but only either with lots of drifting and such first-class performance or if there are additionals there - like jumping from bridges and other changing "lanes" between DISCONNECTED roads. Shooting's warmly welcome.:P

The Lounge / Re: What's your spring? :)

Rainy and cool all day. Snow reported in the Northwest suburbs this morning.

Right now, raining and 40F. Sump-pump running about every fifteen minutes or so.
Is it usual for your place in May?
Here, it looked like starting summer earlier this week, the next one even a heat wave expected. I don't think it's like usual, but anyway, the week after that there's a drop expected, and the first days of June are forecast to be moderate. Rains are also expected - but judging by a recent oops in such a rainy 'promise', nobody knows...:left:

DnD Central / Re: Infrastructure
Bel, I suppose some bad-headed pedestrians are worth running over, huh?:)
Some stroll across the street not even thinking about turning their head or like that. Some with juniors in cradles. Should people be to have a WALKING permit too? Like a driver's license?

DnD Central / Re: Infrastructure
I don't know about Moscow taxis, but looking at our local chauffeurs, I'd prefer public transport - unless in "life&death" circumstances.

On that "Dutch street" matter, I guess a Hollywoodian action-movie car chase will kill there everybody anyway:) Remember those Terminatorial stunts on pavements and similar mouseholes at a speed of ~100mi/h, huh?

DnD Central / Re: Infrastructure
Private cars are evil anyway. A net of public transport should exist, be developed and be attractive in terms of costs for the public.
In Britain I hear, public transportation will cost you more than a taxi in Moscow. It's insanity, don't you think?

No,

This thread is about cities and civilised life...

I agree that this one is about current conditions, but we don't have any other weather thread, so I put it here. If you have objections, start a "special" weather thread.

The other day I presumably heard a nightingale singing out of my window; and yesterday (or maybe today morning?) I heard maybe a similar guy, or some other bird singing. It tweeted like this: . What do you think it was?:)

Wind or humidity? Around here in the Winter, when they want to tell you the "real feel" temperatures they always figure the actual temps and the wind speed. I've never heard of them figuring in the humidity.

It might make sense that more humidity (even though at low temperatures that means practically nothing) at least could feel colder. After all, the layer of warm air around your body that has to be heated before you feel warm(ish) would take longer to heat due to the water contents. But wind often successfully tries to get rid of that warmed up air regardless of the humidity.

On the other hand, the effect of sea mist blowing in in large quantities (which happens frequently in winter) feels more like a warm blanket even if the humidity is 100% and you're getting as wet as if it were raining. I suspect that has more to do with the relative lack of wind (otherwise the mist'd be blown away pretty quickly) than with the humidity, though.
Physics and physiology.
Physiology: humidity limits your skin's capability of self-regulating the body temperature via sweating. So in warm weather it makes you (your skin) sorta suffocate.
Physics: in cold weather air moisture adsorbs to your skin/clothes and, as water has much more thermal capacity than gas (air), the adsorbed, cooled moisture withdraw your body heat more effectively than just cold air.
Apart from that, there's such a matter as partial pressure, i.e. relational oxygen density, which one can be heavily affected by humidity conditions, and as the human is a warm-blooded animal, influences your metabolic capacities of body temperate self-regulation.
