Apple is snootily over priced and the snooty accept it.

The products are also a ridiculous price
Of course, when you compare, well, apples to apples, the price difference isn't as much people imagine. I bought mine for less than a comparable Windows system. Yes, you can buy a Windows system for 300 bucks but the machine but that thing which will barely run Chrome in about three years (the solution would be to swap out Windows for a light Linux distro such as Peppermint. Well you can lighter still than Peppermint)

I prefer iron be solid and staid. The "operating system" is always up in the air… I, myself, prefer a UNIX version; but -considering how old such are- there's only compatibility, usability, and dependability to judge upon. (Some people are fashionistas… We can ignore them; but not their money!) Windows always seems to "break" things every time they "improve" things…
I can't say Apple hasn't adopted the same philosophy! :)

I've sometimes argued for a Universal Operating System. (But incoherently… :) )

Dragging in a $300 machine is rather silly. It's rather that, e.g., a $1500 ASUS Zenbook 3 might well be a better choice than the $2400 Macbook Pro even if you don't take the price into account. And that's in spite of the fact that compared to its predecessor, the Zenbook 3 actually shares many of the Macbook Pro's flaws.

When you do take money into account, the Zenbook 3 is available in an $1100 configuration that is slightly inferior, but offers a significantly better bang for your buck without any really big compromises. This is what people are talking about when they say Apple computers are overpriced. Not that there are low-quality <$500 laptops out there.

But that seems to a common comparison among consumers (even though what kind of specs can one expect for an all in one at that price point at Walmart) I only paid $600 for my Mac, by specs it was a better machine most Windows machines at the same price point.

If you compare specs, you are already above average consumers who only compare prices. But what specs did you look at, specifically? I know Mac screens are invariably better. Anything else?

Sure, but I also paid €500 for my €800 laptop. It's roughly comparable to the €1000 Macbook Air, although I'd pick it over the Air on account of having a better keyboard and a better screen. All thin laptop keyboards are awful, mind you. And of course a large part of this is personal preference. Oh yeah, and I think stuff like keyboard backlight is useless nonsense at best (in the words of someone just yesterday: "oh, you can type without looking!"), so I suppose I am "missing" out on some battery-wasting stuff. :P If you say Mac OS is worth the €200 jump from €800 to €1000 that's fair enough, but hardware-wise I don't think there's any justification to it. I'd rather run Linux anyway, regardless whether it's on a Mac or Windows laptop.

I do think the touchpad works nicer in Linux and Mac OS than in Windows, btw. Mac OS and Linux are also generally much better about DPI-scaling. On the flipside, I think Mac OS has had preciously few improvements (and several setbacks) since 2000 or so. Most of the differences seem to be of the wow-factor and form over function variety.

I know Mac screens are invariably better.
There are monitors and devices with OLED displays, which although hyped does tend to look amazing even after you turn off the stupid oversaturation with which they try to sell all displays. The Microsoft Surface Pro 4 (starting at €800) is fantastic. Display-wise, anyway. Certainly the best out of any non-useless device I've seen (useless meaning, e.g., iPad & Android tablets). Of course you'll have to add the cost of a keyboard on top of the price, and the expensive (€150 iirc?) keyboard supplied by Microsoft is one of the worst keyboards I've ever had the displeasure of trying out. I wouldn't be surprised if your average $25 el cheapo Chinese bluetooth keyboard were significantly superior.

Mainly Apple devices are (seemingly) becoming less overpriced because other manufacturers (Microsoft, ASUS, etc.) are making their higher-end offerings increasingly overpriced as well.

Is there anything else you dislike about it besides it being a drain on the battery?

For people like me who only half-mastered the keyboard, lights are an important orientator to get hands rightly positioned without looking. And by "without looking" I mean looking but without having to turn the eyes directly towards it. Lights also help to orientate around the Enter key, because different keyboards have it shaped differently and this affects the keys around it.

Yes, I've noticed the same thing. Even though shaped like a tablet, Microsoft Surface is actually a complete computer, hardly any compromises at all. It's a product Microsoft got right. Then again, the novel 360° laptops with touchscreen, such as Lenovo Yoga and Asus Zenbook are in the same category with a proper keyboard to boot.

It logically also adds extra weight and it had better not be too bright at night. Anyway, I didn't say I dislike it, just that it's about the only thing I can think of the Macbook Air has over my laptop besides Mac OS. But both of those features are mostly neutral to me. The fact that Apple keyboards are awful is (to the best of my knowledge) unrelated to backlighting.

Unless I'm mistaken the Zenbook display is worse to comparable with a Macbook. But indeed, the Lenovo Yoga also features a superior display.

For some they are bad news whereas for others they are good news.

President-elect Donald J. Trump was among the first Washington leaders to react to the announcement of Fidel Castro's death: "Fidel Castro is dead!"

BTW, the USA has been trying to assasinate Castro for 57 years. Trump is elected and he's dead in three weaks.

The same thing for the European leftist-chic culture.

Yes the USA did for decades try to get rid of Castro but they mishandled things from the very start.

When the revolution started it won because the Cuba regime was controlled by the USA and not something to be complimented for. Both the Mafia, US corruption oh and the CIA ran the place. Being so damned corruptly run the Cubans got sick of it and the rich got richer thanks to America. Castro wanted to discuss with Eisenhower back in those days but got the heavy brush off and we all know what followed. The initial people who fled Cuba were the comfortable off and the rich who made a fortunate thanks to US controls of the place and the MAFIA mob, etc. America's influence on Cuba was a damnable disgrace but they didn't care a hell for the people only the rich, etc. So if the USA had handled the overdue revolution a bit better then the future would have been different than being blocked off and people suffering.

All those who have come out glowing on Castro need their heads examined. Yes the people had health care which was equal to the best countries in the world and educated too. However Castro was a damn dictator and having private business dealt with, freedoms restricted and a one-party State. He himself was no real clever clogs as it happens because although he attended good schools coming from a comfortable background he had to drop the idea of a university education as he could not keep up! So although those were two good areas it does not mean we should say that his dictatorship had political values. If you patted him for health and education but did not agree with his Communism then tough or ended up in jail. no freedoms.  And America holding on to a base in a country?/ no great principles there at all from that corner.  The US legacy led to Castro.

So although there were practical benefits as the two I mention I had no time for Fidel Castro or what he stood for.  You helped create him USA and time you were out of that base. Now we get all the nonsense across the world on Castro and that is ridiculous and flies in the face or rights and freedoms.

I would say nothing. But as the topic of this thread is "Today's Bad News", It is very much on topic.
The start and end to every story is the same. But what comes in between you have yourself to blame.

I like Macs and can figure out what's gone wrong, when things go wrong, on such systems. When I have to "fix" Windows systems, I know that I'm placating "regular" consumers! People who will never have a clue...
This is straightforward Apple fanboy attitude right there.

Mac consumers are obviously as regular as Windows' users. Mac users probably even more so in America, because they fill shops over there. Over here, Apple store is a nice place to go if you want to be alone.

Regular users of anything qualify as dumbusers, but Apple fanboys additionally qualify as, well, Apple fanboys. Dumbusers can be helped and they deserve all the help they can get, but fanboys cannot be helped.

I prefer iron be solid and staid.
And only Apple has such iron, right?

The "operating system" is always up in the air…
No it's not. For one, it makes the iron work. And when you try different operating systems on the same iron, you will know the difference. You already know the difference between different apps, browsers and drivers. Operating systems are the same way.

I've sometimes argued for a Universal Operating System. (But incoherently… :) )
That's the only way to argue for it. A very bad idea.

President Donald Trump had a lot to say about President Barack Obama’s vacations and his costs to American taxpayers. Yet a new report confirms that Trump’s travel costs—made more exorbitant because of his refusal to stay in the White House on weekends—is on track to far surpass those of Obama.
Leftist dishonest media. Trump will not let them get away with this.

Let's hope for US tax payers that Trump’s travel costs won't exceed those of the Iraq war, to name just one of the more recent wars the USA was engaged lately. ;)

Not for food and beverage or overnight stay. It's about security provisions he isn't allowed to deny as president even if he has his own private security guard.
