Otter Browser Forum / Re: Custom website settings.
Is there anyway to wild card site settings, so we don't lose cookie and scripting settings between say www.yahoo.com and accounts.yahoo.com.

The same way as in Opera.
On e.g. www.yahoo.com you make a right click to get to site specific settings, make those settings and delete the "www." from the address so that it reads yahoo.com only. This way it's valid for all yahoo.com's third-level domains.

Otter Browser Forum / Re: bugs
The dropdown-lists of the back/forward buttons have stopped working for me some weeks ago (I'm now on weekly 127; Linux x64, Qt 5.6.1), holding the buttons just does nothing.
Confirmed. Probably two weeks ago in my case.
I can't remember them ever working (currently weekly 131-1~yakkety, Linux x86, Qt 5.6.1).

For some weeks now (at least weeklies 125 and 128) plugin-on-demand-setting doesn't work. mp4-files on the site get played automatically.
131 doesn't have this problem as it doesn't show any image at all like ovas already mentioned.

Otter Browser Forum / Re: Snap packeges instead of deb for Ubuntu?
What do you think about question in topic theme?
Nothing. There are a lot of distros using deb-packages, but currently only one using snap. Snaps are supposed to bring their own dependencies, so downloaded packages get much bigger and systems get bloated.
Don't waste time on this at this stage, there's no advantage for users. Make Otter a working browser with mail client. That's what's important.

Otter Browser Forum / Re: bugs
@Emdek
1. Sorry, I didn't find any crashdump or something like that.
2. I mentioned it because it worked fine when I tried last year in some double-digit-version.
3. Ok, I thought it was by mistake.
4. It works with almost any "bigger" page (several MB). But maybe you need a slow internet access to notice. The "Reload"-Button will appear before the page is completely loaded. It can take several minutes afterwards for the page to load completely. Try www.faz.net or www.welt.de for example.

I can also confirm what exley says: clicking on STOP does not necessarily stop loading the page. STOP button changes to RELOAD, but the page continues loading. Maybe there is a connection between this and #4.

Otter Browser Forum / Re: bugs
Concerning the bug last mentioned in reply #282 (Otter can't connect to the internet): solved.
It seems to have been a collision between Qt 5 and the Linux kernel. Problem started with some upgrade to Qt 5.X.Y (it would be too time-consuming to check which version exactly) and disappeared after upgrading to kernel 4.4.

Otter Browser Forum / Re: bugs
1. Otter crashes every time I try to load http://autoexpress.co.uk/car-news
(using otter-browser_0.9.10-dev115-1~wily~ppa1_amd64.deb ).
2. Import of Opera bookmarks difficult on Linux systems as hidden folders cannot be activated. You can't locate the standard path ( ~/.opera/bookmarks.adr ) because Crtl+H doesn't work on Otter's window.
3. Access to settings of content blocking is not possible unless menu bar is visible (not available in the alternative menu).
4. At least with some pages the green reload button is shown (instead of the red X for stop) when the page is still blank and loading. So you can't stop loading and only the tab's small icon will give away that there is still activity in the background.

Otter Browser Forum / Re: bugs
@Emdek
Sorry, but apart from adding the line I have no idea what to do. I will just wait for Otter to work maybe some day and meanwhile look for other browsers as Opera gets more and more difficult to use with modern websites.

Otter Browser Forum / Re: bugs
@Emdek
I am afraid that's not possible. I tried but my connection currently is too unstable and qt.io doesn't support to continue downloads after reestablishing the connection.
I am far from being a programmer but the problem could be based on qt's checking the physical state of the device http://doc.qt.io/qt-5/qnetworkaccessmanager.html#networkAccessible-prop and getting the wrong value because it doesn't cooperate with usb-modeswitch (I am using a UMTS-modem).

Otter Browser Forum / Re: bugs
@ Emdek:
Qt SDK is far too big to download and compile. And even if I would I wouldn't know whether the problem still existed because of some problem with Qt as such or because of my making some mistake compiling (so far I never succeeded when trying to compile anything).
But by now I am sure that the problem is located in Qt5. Qupzilla recently changed to Qt5 and now it is unusable (same problem as Otter). When trying to load www.qupzilla.com with Qupzilla I get "Network access is disabled." whereas Opera loads the same page just fine.

Otter Browser Forum / Re: bugs
Yesterday I updated qt5 to 5.5.1 which has arrived in Testing. No changes. Otter doesn't send or receive anything (otter-browser_0.9.08-dev95-1~vivid~ppa1_amd64.deb).
My other browsers (Opera 12.16, Qupzilla 1.8.6, Iceweasel 38.2.1) work fine.
14
Otter Browser Forum / Re: Otters Bookmarks
Otter's bookmarks should be in ~/.config/otter/bookmarks.xbel
Firefox's or Iceweasel's bookmarks are in ~/.mozilla/CRYPTICNAME.default/bookmarks.html
Don't ask me how to get the information from xbel to html, though.
As far as I know Firefox cannot import bookmarks from Opera or Otter.

Otter Browser Forum / Re: bugs
@ Emdek After a complete dist-upgrade (still somewhat difficult with Stretch's ongoing transition of gcc5 and MATE 1.10 partially in Sid) Otter is working again for the first time in two weeks. I hope it stays that way. Maybe there was some conflict between Otter and an updated package.
Edit: It worked once and now the problem is back. Otter doesn't send or receive anything.

Off-topic but with respect to this page:
Would it be possible to restrict the file size in posts to a sensible size?
It is annoying having to wait minutes to load the page if there are images of 3,68 MB.
Edit: This page has almost 23 MB.

Otter Browser Forum / Re: bugs
@Emdek
No, I connect with a USB-3G-stick. Other browsers work fine. Otter gives a constant 0,0 KiB/s (upload as well, so nothing leaves my system) no matter what site I try to reach.
I will make a complete dist-upgrade when MATE 1.10 is complete in testing-repo and Debian's change to gcc5 is completed (hopefully next week). Maybe this will change something.

Edit: Without any changes today I was able to load something with 0.9.07 weekly #84.
I have no idea why it sometimes works and mostly not.

Edit #2: It worked once on 09-09, since then it doesn't.

Otter Browser Forum / Re: bugs
First I thought this to be a bug of beta 7, but after downgrading to dev84 the problem is still there, so there seems to be an incompatibility between Otter and network_manager_1.0.6-1 (before 1.0.2-2).
Otter is not able to reach any site, it does not send anything according to MATE's Netmanager Applet. This frequently happened before unless I started Otter immediately after connecting, now it is a constant.

Otter Browser Forum / Re: Beta 7 release (01-09-2015)
For me otter-browser-git_0.9.99~git20150904+r6~ubuntu15.04.1_amd64.deb and 20150903 don't work at all. They simply don't connect to anything. This frequently happened with otter-browser_0.9.07-dev84-1~vivid~ppa1_amd64.deb and always with the new git versions.

Otter Browser Forum / Re: What I need.
@Emdek
I am still using 5.4.2, the latest in Debian Testing (I know I could get a newer version somehow, but with my recently unstable connection I am glad to get the basics done).
The mentioned bug seems similar, even though I am not really roaming between different access points. But I am assigned a different IP each time I connect.
But this is only one of the two problems. Sometimes, mostly when after establishing a connection I don't use it instantly with Otter (but with other programs like Opera or Synaptic) I can't use it with Otter (say 15 minutes later). Otter just doesn't send or receive anything but gives no error message.

Otter Browser Forum / Re: What I need.

- browsing history in the backward/forward icons is available on clicking and holding left mouse button over them

Thanks, I didn't know that. So it's already one less on my list.

- there are some actions in the context menu (right mouse button) in the download dialog

The context menu does not offer anything useful in my opinion. The possibility to open a pdf-file (to name the most important example) is simply lacking. You have to save and then open the pdf.

Otter Browser Forum / Re: What I need.
I think it would be better to name the requirement (and add a link for detailed information if necessary).

For me those requirements are:
- mail-client
- password manager
- better download dialog (enabling me to alternatively open the file)
- dropdown functionality of the backwards icon
- less program crashes
- solving the connection problem (I suppose that's to do with qt5): when I get disconnected because of provider problems otter after reestablishing the connection often cannot be used anymore until after the next boot (Error 8: The specified configuration cannot be used.).

Otter Browser Forum / Re: Otter not working anymore
Thanks for the information.
Including the dependencies of those six packages it's a total of 51 new packages to install and a dozen to update to be able to compile. I think I better postpone that for a week with more time on my hands.

Otter Browser Forum / Re: Otter not working anymore
I tried, but as usual it starts with some error I don't understand:
Code: [Select]
CMake Error at CMakeLists.txt:73 (find_package):
By not providing "FindQt5.cmake" in CMAKE_MODULE_PATH this project has
asked CMake to find a package configuration file provided by "Qt5", but
  CMake did not find one.

Could not find a package configuration file provided by "Qt5" (requested
version 5.2.0) with any of the following names:

    Qt5Config.cmake
    qt5-config.cmake

Add the installation prefix of "Qt5" to CMAKE_PREFIX_PATH or set "Qt5_DIR"
to a directory containing one of the above files.  If "Qt5" provides a
separate development package or SDK, be sure it has been installed.

-- Configuring incomplete, errors occurred!

Edit: For no apparent reason Otter works right now. No system restart in between.

Otter Browser Forum / Re: Otter not working anymore
Now it doesn't work anymore.
What happened:
Otter worked, then my internet connection collapsed, happens sometimes. After reestablishing the connection I tried to reload the partially loaded page and got "Error 8 The specified configuration cannot be used.". Typing other adresses this happened as well. So I had to close Otter. Starting Otter again it didn't work anymore.

Otter Browser Forum / Re: bugs

apparently translation needs updating.

Yes, I have five options instead of four.

As noted by ersi, in our nomenclature Speed Dial is called Start Page.

Ok, I didn't know that and it is somewhat confusing.
So "Begin with home page" makes Otter start with a default web page and "Begin with start page" shows a local page displaying the speed dial? I hope the German translation will stick to the naming used for ages and call them "Startseite" and "Schnellwahl".
