What is your weather now?
9°C Breezy and raining.
10°, bit of wind, and dark.
Icy. Decided to rip my wiper blade off in the middle of a down pour of freezing rain. WINNING! :P
10°F and about 6inches of snow on the ground.
11°C Cloudy but dry.
It's getting freezy.
2°F at 10pm. But no wind so it isn't very cold.
10°C Cloudy and occasional rain showers.
-5°F as of 11am.
5°C Dry at the moment.
11°C Wind and rain
18°F as of noon. A big jump from -4°F yesterday.
Windy, with a chance of rain.
12°C Raining and very windy.
ׂ
9°C Blowing a gale and very heavy rain.
1°C Heavy rain and blowing a gale with worse to come by evening. ::)
8°C and a bit gray. 24km/h SSW, aka 4Bft (the latter is my "native" unit of wind speed).
Swinging. It's going to a slight subzero for a couple'days, then again - not very winter.
It seems to me that if we haven't got a midwinter weather till January, we won't have the next year at all - or rather the next year will be the 2013 for the second time.
cold
Freekin' hot!!! 93 heading to over 100 (https://www.smileyfaze.tk/thumbs/Screamer02.gif)
1°C Cold, blustery showers and strong wind.
Hotter than yesterday
14°F and blowing snow as of 10:30pm
7°C Heavy rain and very windy.
85°F → 29°C
Wet.
2°C Heavy rain and gales.
Snowing now.
Damp and cold. Winter weather advisories for freezing --- oh, heck, if it's sloppy it's promised to do it.
Sunny intervals and wintry showers.
75°F - 23°C Partly sunny
Snowing then raining then snowing again, freezing cold and gale-force winds.
Similar here except because it's not freezing it's cold rain.
-3°F freakin' cold
2°C rain and snow and gale force winds.
Yup, still storming.
-10°F at 9:30am (https://dndsanctuary.eu/imagecache.php?image=http%3A%2F%2Fimg837.imageshack.us%2Fimg837%2F1402%2Fflh.gif&hash=f68ed1b374b8d2cff7a9cd1c8bfb03b2" rel="cached" data-hash="f68ed1b374b8d2cff7a9cd1c8bfb03b2" data-warn="External image, click here to view original" data-url="http://img837.imageshack.us/img837/1402/flh.gif)
332 Hazardous (http://aqicn.org/city/beijing/m/) That is PM2.5 332 (Hazardous), PM10 152 (Unhealthy), O₃ 19 (good), SO₂ (moderate), temperature -3℃, humidity 69%, wind 4 m/s. I am not so fond of these indices, but they are good for an at the glance overview.
The storm subsided. It's 8°C and sunny!
For air quality http://www.vmm.be/lucht/meetresultaten
It all looks fairly decent judging by the map, although I suspect they didn't stick any measuring equipment right next to major traffic arteries.
Thaw. Slippy.
AQICN is a little more fun. The AQICN site started with China (http://www.myhealthbeijing.com/china-public-health/aqi-websites-an-interview-with-my-new-favorite-at-aqicn/) as the name (Air Quality in China) implies, and seems geared towards Asia and the world (seemingly the New Delhi air quality is even more horrendous than northern China), but to get a map over European (or American) stations there is no simple URL. You can start with one station (http://aqicn.org/?map&city=Netherland/Amsterdam/Spaarnwoude), go for full map, and zoom out as much as you can before the markers disappear.
Not so smooth, and I am not sure how reliable all the stations are (many are also missing important measures like PM2.5), but you get a snapshot.
I guess the Liefkenshoektunnel (http://aqicn.org/city/belgium/fla/kalloliefkenshoektunnel/) is their measuring station closest to me, although Hoevenen (http://aqicn.org/?city=Belgium/fla/hoevenen) is probably more representative of air quality around the city—still, it's hardly the inner city.
1°C Rain showers.
23°F cloudy but a lot warmer than yesterday :)
2°C Dry and the sun is shining for the moment.
72°F & breezy
2°C Dry and the sunny at the moment.
Depressing :-\
Delightfully cool (72°F = 22°C) & clear ..... not a cloud in the sky ... horizon to horizon .... totally crystal clear blue.
3°C Very heavy rain.

Think I'd like Smurfy weather, it would make a nice change if nothing else.
Heavy rain and blowing a gale.
I think you meant "heavy smurf and smurfing a smurf". :D
Here it's smurfteen degrees and mildly smurfy.
I think you meant "heavy smurf and smurfing a smurf".
Yes, I'd rather!

Clear and cold, -8F. No wind chill at the moment.
Lake-effect snow dumped several inches of the white stuff on us yesterday.
They say South-West England is experiencing severe floodings - if I've got it right. The govt calls for a "Cobra committee" - or what is it?.. (Aha, just snakes is what they need to that.;))
Got another winter outbreak - it's 19F, clear sky, a little bit of snow on the ground, supposed to stay cold and windy for the next few days ( Monday night is supposed to be 0F and 20mph wind. The locals are going to freak out, it's not supposed to get that cold around here. )
Berlin is hardly supposed to get that cold either, is it? :right:
Partly Cloudy & Cool (https://www.smileyfaze.tk/thumbs/cool.gif)
Partially winter...
0°C Frosty and raining.
We had a blizzard yesterday - about 40 cm of snow and -12 C most of the day with wind chill of -30.
Today is sunny but still cold at -17 with a wind chill of -30 but it's gorgeous - all white and sparkly and bright with fresh new snow.
Tuesday, it's supposed to be plus 7 and rain. :( Ugh.
Berlin is hardly supposed to get that cold either, is it? :right:
Oh, Berlin can go all the way down to -20C, especially in late January / early February if there's a high pressure system sitting on top of central Europe.
Oh, I didn't know that. All hail our sea climate. :P
Oh, I didn't know that. All hail our sea climate. :P
It all depends on the high pressure systems. If there is none anywhere close we get the usual crap from the north atlantic, although with a little less rain than .nl, since there's plenty of land and a few hills along the way. If there is one, it deflects the stuff coming in from the atlantic, we get a nice, clear sky and depending on the season it gets really hot ( we've had days with 39C in the shade ) or really cold ( -20C or less ).

Heavy rain and gales again. (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/253164678/thumbdown.gif)
Raining a lot - temp heading to plus 9 C then down to minus 9 C tomorrow. Another quick freeze. Ugh.
-10C now, -17C expected tonight, with plenty of wind chill.
5°C Heavy rain, high winds.
Was 9°C last night with heavy winds and rain, 3°C when I woke up, now it's hitting 0°C and everything is freezing up solid.
Supposed to go to -13°C tonight. Going to be very icy and slippery today.
3°C Occasional showers but sunny at the moment.
Drut 4C, icy paves!.. Nice!..
Wet and windy.
Thanks we're not on the Irish Sea coast...

We had a blizzard yesterday - about 40 cm of snow and -12 C most of the day with wind chill of -30.
I have always found wind chill temperatures to be of dubious value, especially in winter weather. Wind chill is supposed to indicate temperature on naked skin, and you will not see a lot of skin in a blizzard. It is somewhat relevant if wearing a wind-permeable outer layer of clothing, but no sane person does that either.

Reminds me too much about Oslo. Wintertime the temperature hovers around freezing, and has a depressing tendency to be just above freezing during daytime and below freezing at night, to ensure a fresh new layer of ice to slip on. Also the city is vaguely bowl-shaped, colder/more snowy towards the rim/hills, so on a walk to or from the centre there will always be at least one thaw/melt zone on the way. For perfection add a thin sprinkling of fresh morning snow to hide any evidence of the surface below.

Well, to us, windchill is an indication that, even though it might only be X temperature, it's freezing out there on your face, which is always exposed to the weather. It also can be so cold in the windchill that frostbite is an issue but not very often. It's rare for it to go below -10 here for any length of time.
Do you have plain terrain in there?
-3°C Very frosty with wintry showers.

You don't use scarves over there? If it is seriously windy, snowy, or cold outside, I would expose no skin to the weather anywhere except for eyes (behind glasses) and probably around mouth/nose to avoid soggy clothing.
If for some reason I couldn't I would watch my boots or walk backwards, depending on wind direction.
You get in touch with your inner balance artist this way.
Or fall a lot, as I do!! LOL I really hate ice. Snow I love but ice? Nope. Most of our snow and ice will be gone by tomorrow - heading for a week of above zero temperatures. Ugh. Back to ugly brown winter.
Tis hot 85°, will probably get hotter as the day gets on.....the sky is the bluest of blue....not one cloud in sight horizon to horizon.

Middle Sweden. In theory it has stopped snowing after 3-4 days of snowy weather that the English and probably the Scottish would call a blizzard. The view from my window disagrees.
Norway, especially more Northern parts have been unusually warm and dry this winter, which has led to an unusual hazard for mid-winter Norway: wildfires.
Norway fire ravages historic wood village in Laerdal (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-25799960) was just the first village to go, there were three the following week.

Then, in China Shangri-La had burned down the week before (http://edition.cnn.com/2014/01/13/world/asia/china-shangrila-fire/), a fiery end to the year.
According to the Dutch definition, a snowstorm is a a combination of snowfall and at least 8 Beaufort.* A blizzard is not a thing—at least not in the Netherlands—because that's a specific North-American type of snowstorm caused by the polar air from the northern plains. But I suppose that if a Dutch snowstorm occurs when it's colder than -6°C at speeds of at least 7 Bft for at least 3 hours, and visibility is sufficiently impaired, you might reasonably call it a blizzard. However, the heaviest Dutch snowstorm of the 20th century (http://www.knmi.nl/cms/content/22955/sneeuwstorm_van_de_eeuw) fails to meet the first criterion. It was -5°C.
The 20th century had 22 snowstorms; the 21st century hasn't had any yet.
* However, a storm is defined as at least 9 Beaufort.
That is pretty much the Norwegian definition as well, which after all follows from the word "snøstorm" (or more Germanic "snestorm"), a storm with snow in it. So does the Wikipedia definition (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blizzard).
A blizzard is a severe snowstorm caused by strong sustained winds of at least 56 km/h (35 mph) and lasting for a prolonged period of time – typically three hours or more.
This was how I used the world "blizzard", but later I realised that English have a tendency to call any form of heavy (or even not that heavy) snowfall with the barest minimum of wind.
Cold, windy, rain and snow.
The word storm is definitely used a lot wider in English than in Dutch. To me the idea of calling something less than 7 Bft a storm is preposterous, and even 7 Bft is more a bit breezy than stormy (I grew up at the coast). But in English, a bit of snow or rain, or just a bit of thunder can be a "storm" with barely any wind at all. However, I think Americans might be a bit less loose-lipped with the word than the British.
The word storm is definitely used a lot wider in English than in Dutch.
No wonder!
Northern nations have developed much larger spectrum of "snow" lexicon - due to, apparently, their relevant allocation/habitat. For example, while Russian has a handful of terms for snowy weather, I've heard that some Far North aborigenes' languages have tens or more both for the snow falling - AND snow LYING! (https://dndsanctuary.eu/imagecache.php?image=http%3A%2F%2Fi.imgur.com%2F0GhBTd3.png&hash=9a42a8627821f733ba92209bb201a708" rel="cached" data-hash="9a42a8627821f733ba92209bb201a708" data-warn="External image, click here to view original" data-url="http://i.imgur.com/0GhBTd3.png):)
And the sun shone today again here! :P ;D
No wonder!

The Eskimo thing is a myth. Anyway, I think you've misunderstood what I was saying. In Dutch, the word storm means very strong winds. In English, it also has the broader connotation of any kind of unpleasant weather.
the broader connotation
⬆Sic!(not exactly "connotations" is the word, though...) What I meant(https://dndsanctuary.eu/imagecache.php?image=http%3A%2F%2Fi.imgur.com%2FDR8BNZA.png&hash=2a3c1d3dceb720329f84d864152049ee" rel="cached" data-hash="2a3c1d3dceb720329f84d864152049ee" data-warn="External image, click here to view original" data-url="http://i.imgur.com/DR8BNZA.png)
By the way, would you mind citing some "snow" words from your language? Against "English storms" (and blizzards) Russian has some "пурга", "вьюга", "метель", "позёмка" ("пурга" originates from some norther regions, I reckon)...
Wikipedia has a couple for your amusement: http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sneeuw#Sneeuwval
We have tons of snow words. Sneeuwjacht is snow that's being "hunted" by strong gales, but that is not the same thing as a sneeuwstorm, which I already defined. Sneeuwduinen are snow dunes. There's paksneeuw (snow closely packed together), plaksneeuw (sticky snow), stuifsneeuw (dust snow), papsneeuw (porridge snow), poedersneeuw (powder snow), driftsneeuw (drifting snow), jachtsneeuw (see above, except here it's the snow rather than the process), dwarrelsneeuw (twirling snow), korrelsneeuw (crumble snow), motsneeuw (wet crumbles), krotsneeuw (in between hail and snow), and I could go on but probably not without some memory aids.
How far north is west, anyway? :right: But I know that further north or south isn't everything. England's climate is roughly the same, and grosso modo actually slightly warmer than here because it is under a stronger influence of the Gulf Stream.
Sneeuwjacht is snow
GUESS! Snow on the yacht?:)
England's climate is roughly the same...
Same as WHAT!?
Are you kidding? Rather Scotland - ask you know whom...
Scotland has nothing on Canada and the northern US.
Because the Isles have The Current.
Wikipedia has a couple for your amusement: http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sneeuw#Sneeuwval
Wikipedia also has for Norwegian (http://nn.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sn%C3%B8#Typar_sn.C3.B8_og_sn.C3.B8v.C3.AAr)and English (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Types_of_snow).
The lists are pretty much similar.
Nysnø, new snow, is freshly fallen snow.
Kram snø, wet snow, snow wet enough to make snowballs,
kram and
wet being adjectives, but
kram is an archaic word only used for snow.
Slaps and
slush is the same thing, pretty onomatopoeic.
Skare is snow crust, but possibly used more in Norwegian because it is a specialised word.
There are only a few words that are in Norwegian, but not in English. One of these is
svulle, plural
svuller, most often preceded with ice to get
issvuller. The word, a cognate to the English verb swell, is the weather phenomena I complained about (https://dndsanctuary.eu/index.php?topic=46.msg5127#msg5127) a page or so ago. It refers to those lumps of ice on the ground that makes you slip, fall, and break your neck, or at least perform some awkward acrobatics in the process of doing so.
Ice swellings is a missing word in English.
Let's see, what kind of things do you have. In case of nachtvorst (night/ground frost), that might lead to the opvriezen (freezing up) of e.g. porridge snow or just plain water. If the ground is freezing, but the air isn't, and it rains, that forms ijzel (ijs = ice; ijzel = the rain-caused form of black ice). There are a couple of other factors, but collectively it's known as gladheid (slipperiness). But the best I can think of right now is something like ijs onder sneeuw. I can't for the life of me remember what I used to call this phenomenon when it used to occur frequently. (Again, the 21st century has been rather warm.)
The weather right now is 7° C and raining.
Well, to us, windchill is an indication that, even though it might only be X temperature, it's freezing out there on your face, which is always exposed to the weather. It also can be so cold in the windchill that frostbite is an issue but not very often. It's rare for it to go below -10 here for any length of time.
There's also the difference between "it's 0° C and there's no wind, so I can walk around outside with a thick sweater" (extremely unlikely), and "it's 0°, the wind's blowing at 6 Bft, so I'd better put on a coat, scarf, etc."
That being said, I'm not sure how useful this "wind chill" value is for that, as opposed to knowing the wind force. We don't actually use such a thing.
...but collectively it's known as gladheid (slipperiness).
"Гололедица".
The Russian term.
Wind chill makes some sense in warmer temperatures, where people may be in various states of undress, but it is my argument it doesn't for temperatures below freezing when people are dressed for the occasion. Not many people walk through a blizzard in swimwear.
Odd, it's when it's warmer that I'd call it completely irrelevant. :P
But given that it's windy 90% of the time it's pretty irrelevant in winter too, of course. You'd be crazy not to take a scarf along just in case.
Sleet, snow, windy and freezing. (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/253164678/cold.gif)

Sunny, mid-twenties.
Until May it will be like this, as long as we stay out of the wind.

Still winter here, though...

Cold with rain showers.
24 F and cloudless, with ice, sleet, and some snow expected in the coming hours.
10° C and raining moderately hard. I'd like to let some fresh air in, but alas…
13° F this morning, more snow on the way. Yes, that's just outside my back door.

You're up quite early for a retired person, it seems to me. Was it even light yet? :)
Cold and frosty but at least it's not raining.
Went shopping...
Overcast. Wet air to the extent of a moderate haze throughout around... However, not very cold. Not cold...
Heavy rain and very, very windy. Very cold too.
Poor Britain! eh? Even north from the Border the Isles can't escape the pouring.
34 F and cloudy.
Ice storm is expected Monday afternoon thru Tuesday morning.
As such, I have braced myself for a torrent of FB statuses, as so:

Bright with sunny intervals and rain showers.
+0_+1 °C (found the degree symbol in the German layout), wet, ghoucking thaw. The pressure depresses my head. No sun (probably went to cheer up Luxor).
Cold but it's dry for a nice change.
ׂ
Where's your Isle of Muerte, Cat?
:)
Wintry Mix at the moment.
28 F
56 F brrr...better turn up the heater.
Cold with snow, rain, and sun so far today.
We had some slight snowfall in the first part of the day, but it's not very cold and the snow now looks dumpy a little...
No sun.
Gale force winds and heavy rain.
Some snow fell again, but the temperature is close to 0°C.
Took a trip to Stockholm. Good choice. While Western Sweden and Norway are deluged with the remains of the weather that flooded parts of England, the weather in Stockholm is just peachy.
Gale force winds and rain showers.
Thaw...
71 F ~22 C
45 F with a clear night sky
Heavy rain and gales, snow is blowing around when it's not raining.
50F with light rain showers
Snowing.
The SUN's come out!:D The sky's got cleared!
The Sun's changed his mind.
+4°C. Looks like April.
Cold, wet and windy.
64 F with a cloudless sky.
(Ran the AC today too!)
Raining and a bit chilly.
72 degrees, and cloudy. We're supposed to get to 74. In a few months it will be 105 everyday, except the days we wish it was "only" 105...
A balmy 5°C cloudy but dry.
Seems like a little anticyclone - cooling for a couple'o'days - to below zero C.
It was dry enough to feel ok when I went out. For tomorrow, they pledge (https://dndsanctuary.eu/imagecache.php?image=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.dubna.ru%2Fimages%2Fweather%2Fcloudiness_3.gif&hash=97071c8cf8cbd9b0e7bbca9f3046681f" rel="cached" data-hash="97071c8cf8cbd9b0e7bbca9f3046681f" data-warn="External image, click here to view original" data-url="http://www.dubna.ru/images/weather/cloudiness_3.gif).
2°C bright intervals and occasional rainy showers.
33°F and drizzling all over two feet of snow.
It's warmer in Sochi, Russia, site of Putin's Olympics.
4°C Very strong winds and rain showers.
Nice blue spots in the sky. I don't know the term for this colour, it makes a sharp contrast with some surrounding clouds tinted with a reddish hues out of reflected sunlight getting there via peculiar atmospheric paths... A bit chilly, tolerable but with a gusty wind which is not very strong although breezy enough.
They are ribbons - those blue spots - seen streched along the horizon.
Raining, windy and cold.
No sun, overcast; chillying a bit - humid enough, I guess...
Gale force winds and rain.
Thaw...
They 'promise' (https://dndsanctuary.eu/imagecache.php?image=http%3A%2F%2Fyandex.st%2Fweather%2Fi%2Ficons%2F30x30%2Fbkn_d.png&hash=712d643a68966c53e9d592b3149d314a" rel="cached" data-hash="712d643a68966c53e9d592b3149d314a" data-warn="External image, click here to view original" data-url="http://yandex.st/weather/i/icons/30x30/bkn_d.png) for a good part of the week (not for now yet). +2°C now...
Rain earlier but it's stopped for now, actually quite pleasant at the moment.
It's been sunny today. Quite sunny. The ground was almost clean (from snow, at least) and dry, I heard a bird singing:bird:

Cloudy with rain but did see the sun peeking out for a little while.
25 F with a cloudless sky.
6°C Cloudy with showers,
Overcast, but warm - about +3°C: I felt sweating already without my vest and scarf. Still not leaving my "winter" "jacket" (actually sort of short leather coat).
25 F foggy and white :(
About 2 Celsius. Feels some cooler, I think...

Pretty much the same here.

Same here, but that's mostly because of the local climate. It's either warm enough to run around in a t-shirt or cold enough for a coat, with maybe a few days per year in between.

Third time this cold season I've caught such a ghast/gustly --whatever: wind blows up to your face and what else those snowflakes which does not at all feel very funny -- it's very wet and chillying. This time it was short.
The wind is still blowing, as I can see, but the God has stopped pluming his angels...:yuck:
I feel like I'm gonna boil some tea...(https://www.smileyfaze.tk/slides/cuppa.gif)
10°C Rained all morning but thankfully it's stopped now.
Nicely blue sky - with rare intermittent "hazy" ribbons of "nebulae".
13°C Rain showers, with dry spells in between. (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/253164678/umbrella.gif)
48 F, just measured 3 inches of rain that has fallen today, and it is expected to continue tomorrow.
The Mississippi Delta has already begun to flood in places. :insane:
Raining.
A bit unfortunate because I have just had a phone call from the body shop about half an hour away that the body work on my Mini Moke is complete.
8°C Rain again.
Dull/overcast.

Dry. Even I saw our roads had got watered or wiped with water.
In the 70s (beautiful) yet windy. Had to rescue the garbage can and pail.

11°C Dry and overcast.
Dry also. +7°C. Sunny.
"+7 °C", cloudy - not overcast, sunny spells... The pressure was dropping, so I felt some discomfort due to this also; humidity is said to be '33%'.
12°C Dry but cloudy. Weather forecast was for rain, guess they got it wrong again.
11°C It's dry, but that's probably as good as it's going to get.
Drei also.
At last we've got some rain.
12°C Nice day, dry and sunny.
Dull, but comfortable.
13°C Nice and sunny again.
Weird.
+11 °C.
36F with snow flurries. Smh
.
Clouds all through the sky, but it's not entirely dull. However, one "very nice" grey cloud is hanging upon our house looking like it's gonna pee or something.
12°C Dry, but grey clouds overhead.
Clear, starry night with a 52 F temp.
Sunny and still
About +10°C, clear sky.
12°C Cloudy with light showers.
12°C Clear blue sky with sunshine.
GlobalLocal warming: +14°C; sunny.
Bright.
First green leaf on a branch against my window (of course if it's not a piece of shit thrown by the idiots upstairs).
+15°C.
The leaf thing doesn't actually look like shit, but it does look withering. Sort of "he drove too fast".
13°C Dry and sunny, but a cool breeze blowing.
13°C A beautiful sunny day with clear blue sky.

16°C Nice and sunny with some cloud cover.
Warm and sunny. And not nice.
A somewhat chilly 74.

Why not starting a "computer weather" topic?
Somewhere in "technology", I guess.
About 20C. Can't see any rain, though wind's whirling.
11°C A cold, grey and cloudy day.
Clouds are gathering! :) :left:
16℃. At 18 hours. In Sweden. In April. Not a month and place I am used to be sweating.
Maybe still some global warming? ???
It's rained eventually. Starting very late night or very early morning, ceasing just short ago in the morning.
It's been cloudy, but now it's getting cleared.
16°C Sun then rain, then sun again. then rain again etc.
Windy, sunny, +14. Celsius.
It's coming to 12°C; sun, but windy (seems like N-wind).
14°C Heavy rain and hailstones.
51 headed for 77 :) Sunny and beautiful.
11°C Dull and grey, but at least it's not raining.
Dry.
13°C Cloudy, with rain showers.
11°C Dull and grey with intermittent showers.
stormy :)
Quite stormy. Tornado warnings have come and gone frequently today.
Same until Tuesday, per predictions.
Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness
14°C Grey and cloudy, with mist and drizzle.
17°C. Clear blue sky and the sun is shining.
Stormy. Earlier, we had a thunderstorm with small hail. About 55F.
13°C Showers and grey skies, thunder forecast for later.
10°C The odd spell of sunshine, but mostly cloudy.
14°C Sunny, with showers.
14°C Cloudy with occasional showers.
10°C Dull and grey, with frequent showers.
Rainy :yuck:
Wind or humidity? Around here in the Winter, when they want to tell you the "real feel" temperatures they always figure the actual temps and the wind speed. I've never heard of them figuring in the humidity.
It might make sense that more humidity (even though at low temperatures that means practically nothing) at least could feel colder. After all, the layer of warm air around your body that has to be heated before you feel warm(ish) would take longer to heat due to the water contents. But wind often successfully tries to get rid of that warmed up air regardless of the humidity.
On the other hand, the effect of sea mist blowing in in large quantities (which happens frequently in winter) feels more like a warm blanket even if the humidity is 100% and you're getting as wet as if it were raining. I suspect that has more to do with the relative lack of wind (otherwise the mist'd be blown away pretty quickly) than with the humidity, though.
Physics and physiology.
Physiology: humidity limits your skin's capability of self-regulating the body temperature via sweating. So in warm weather it makes you (your skin) sorta suffocate.
Physics: in cold weather air moisture adsorbs to your skin/clothes and, as water has much more thermal capacity than gas (air), the adsorbed, cooled moisture withdraw your body heat more effectively than just cold air.
Apart from that, there's such a matter as partial pressure, i.e. relational oxygen density, which one can be heavily affected by humidity conditions, and as the human is a warm-blooded animal, influences your metabolic capacities of body temperate self-regulation.

No,
This thread is about cities and civilised life...
I agree that this one is about current conditions, but we don't have any other weather thread, so I put it here. If you have objections, start a "special" weather thread.
No,
Yes! It wasn't a request.

A chilly 50 degrees. Even my bed is freezing. Brrr!

Yes! It wasn't a request.
My "no" was an answer to your presumed claim that weather conditions is an urban matter.
Those conditions exist and affect a person regardless if he/she is in town or not.
If you like, you can move my post to my "science" thread, though.

17°C Cloudy, but the sun is breaking through now and again.
Rainy and cool all day. Snow reported in the Northwest suburbs this morning.
Right now, raining and 40F. Sump-pump running about every fifteen minutes or so.
It is a tad nippy for my taste. Looks like we're gonna peak at 61. 45 this morning sent me back in for a jacket tho.
A bit windy, mostly clear sky (sunny, few high clouds), warm but not hot.
16°C A bit cloudy, light rain at times. Not what was forecast. Hot and sunny the weatherman said, so he's either incompetent or a liar. (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/253164678/Whistle.gif)
It's hot (23°C, feels like 25°C) and sunny over here.
23 is hot? You must be kidding, you damn' northman.:D
18°C Dry and bright, even a bit of sunshine now and again.

21°C Dry at the moment, but grey clouds are looming.
Дубна.ру thermometer is showing 33C. It's madness...
That one is definitely wrong: Yandex.ru's is showing only 22.
19°C Very cloudy, looks like it could be thunder soon.
+29°C - by Yandex...
Sunny evening, still about 28°C.:left:
Sunny, about 80F. Storms, possibly severe, predicted for tonight.
A quick look at the weather shows a line of storms along the Iowa/Minnesota border, but otherwise clear from the direction weather comes from around here.
Note: Because of my "job", my view of the weather tends to cover a large area. I may have to go there, after all-- so heavy weather in Alabama, or in Iowa, or in Pennsylvania may be as important to me as weather here in the Western 'Burbs of Chicago.
Dubna.ru is showing 21. I'm thinking if to open a bit of the window slot yet...???
It's gonna get nasty. Looking at the radar images, a bad line of storms just blew up in the last hour. We're under severe storm warnings as I write this, large hail, damaging winds and lots of cloud-to-ground lightning are expected.
16°C Sunshine, blue sky and barely a cloud to be seen. Can't see it lasting though.
The storms have passed, mostly noise and a little rain here. Right now, sunny with highs expected to reach the lower 80s F.
84 degrees and no A/C on. :faint:
10°C Very heavy rain which has been non-stop all day so far.
13°C Still raining heavily.
15°C Still the rain pours down.
Overcast and humid as heck.
Rain expected for the next few days.
12°C It's cloudy with heavy rain, for a nice change. (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/253164678/rolleyes.gif)
12°C Very heavy rain, that seems to be unending.
Cold.
ish
Scattered showers for over a week. Humidity is so high 85F feels like over 95! :(
Storms be a brewing.
15°C Very cloudy with occasional heavy showers of rain.
73F and rainy. :(
19°C Quite warm and sunny, with barely a cloud in the sky.
The air is so thick you could cut it with a knife. Rain last night and storms passing to the south today.
Clear and cold. The sun will rise in an hour or two and will warm my outside and a good coffee will warm my inside.
18°C Some sunshine, but dark clouds are starting to gather.
22° and sunshine, but last night…

17°C Dull and overcast, trying to rain.
Rain, rain and more rain. It's doing a number on my mood.
Thunderstorms ( finally ), still not enough rain to turn my front lawn green again.
19°C Sunshine at the moment, but beginning to get cloudy.
Raining :(
17°C Cloudy with light rain showers.
23° Hot and sunny, far too hot for me I must admit.
21°C Blue sky and the sun is shining. Not typical weather for my area.
93F It's gonna be a hot weekend with small chances of rain.
(Gotta love Tennessee. I no sooner posted that when the wind picked up and the sky got dark... Hello T-storm.)
20°C Hot and sunny, bit of grey cloud looming in the distance though.
We are expecting gale-force winds with cold driving rain and destruction, within the hour.
16°C. Sunny one minute, raining the next.
Stormy
The gales by-passed us to the North and to the South.
It is still and the pre-dawn sky is almost blindingly full of stars.
16°C. Dry with a grey sky, looks like the rain is not far away.
Windy & Wet :yuck:
16°C Cloudy, but dry.
19°C Blue sky and sunny, but clouds over now and again.
High of 92 F with a heat index between 100F - 105F, from what the weather man said this morning. :faint:

That's far too hot to be enjoyable, best get yourself down to the poolside. (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/253164678/Yes.gif)
18°C Very cloudy and grey, rain not far away I think.
20°C. Clear blue sky and golden sunshine.
23°C A gloriously hot summers day, with blue sky and golden sunshine. Too hot for me though. (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/253164678/coolwithfan.gif)
Cold. The sun is not up yet but the sky is full of stars. Once the sun is up and I can find a spot out of the breeze it will be pleasantly warm.
24°C It's getting quite hot. (for Scotland anyway) (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/253164678/Wink.gif)
I don't know what the exact temp is, however, I do know it's hot. :faint:
24°C apparently but it feels hotter than that in the sun. Ideal day for a nice cool  wish I could have one.
It's so subtropical hot here that I really need to go shower. I used to think that only dirty city people need to go shower :irked:
26°C Hot and sunny. Weather forecast was for it to be cooler today. Pah! (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/253164678/rolleyes.gif)
Thunder and lightning and the rain is lashing down. It's warm though.
hot!
15°C Very cloudy and grey, waiting for the rain to come.
Rainy on and off all day.
15°C Very cloudy and a cold wind blowing.
99F according to my thermostat. Doesn't feel like it tho. :right:
15°C Cloudy with occasional sunshine. Must be getting chilly though, as the end of my nose is cold.
Stormy. :)
85 degrees with some clouds. Nice and cool. It only got up to 94 today :)
The rain has stopped and the sun is shining. We had six inches of rain in a day and a half.
We have had decimal units since 1966, but I still think of rainfall in inches and people's height in feet and inches.
15°C Sunny but a distinct chill in the air.
18°C Lovely sunny day.
There has been a distinct drop in temperature, it's very cold and raining.
Raining for days.
Sunny Spring day with a dozen different species of birds trying to out-shriek each other, beginner-sized waves and the fish are biting.
12°C A touch of frost this morning and it's raining.
Cold, windy, wet and wintry.
Yesterday's Spring weather has disappeared.
11°C A cold chill, but it's dry.
Beautiful
12°C Heavy rain and a very strong wind.
Cold, very wet and very windy.
Sunny with real warmth. It will be like this until May.
Cold, heavy rain, stormy winds.
It's snowing :eyes:
It's freezing! I don't like it! Not one bit!
Cloudy with the odd sunny spell. Surprisingly warm for the time of year.
Unusually nice and clear. The grass is still green, and it's nearing December. The year of the wooden horse has been a really warm one.
Cold and wet. But it's nice and cosy indoors. (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/253164678/CheezyGrin.gif)
Freezing and everything is white, covered with frost. (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/253164678/cold.gif)
It's just started snowing. I think that means winter has arrived.
Snowing heavily.
Pouring with rain.
Gravel driveway washing into the sea and the garage is flooded.
Foggy, misty, mid 40s F. Going to maybe mid 50s under damp conditions. I'm homebound today due to weather, the Grey Lady put up a fuss and decided to give ignition trouble so its in the shop-- and here I sit.
It's just started snowing. I think that means winter has arrived.
Could you send some my way? If it's gonna be this cold it should at least look like winter damnit. ;)
Cloudy, rainy, chance of snow later.
Could you send some my way? If it's gonna be this cold it should at least look like winter damnit. ;)
It didn't last long enough for me to do that. If we get more I'll try blowing it your way. (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/253164678/Wink.gif)
Cold and wet and there is more rain coming.
Sunny (for those six hours the sun is up), reasonably warm (around freezing), no snow. Grass still green on the other side of the fence.
Cloudy, cooler. Mid 20s F, the high today won't make freezing.
Could you send some my way? If it's gonna be this cold it should at least look like winter damnit. ;)

Sounds like a deal! To be honest, it'd be nice to see a white Christmas. It's been 9 yrs. since I seen a GOOD white Christmas.
42 and no snow. :(
MOTS. Cloudy, cool, flurries and a good chance of freezing drizzle tonight. Messy Chicago winter.
Summer on the New South Wales South coast.
It doesn't get much better than this.
Heavy rain, but at 8°C it's not freezing rain.
Rainy, 49 F
Sunny.
Snow. Had to happen sooner or later, but just a thin sprinkle.
It was snowing fairly heavily here yesterday, but the vast majority of it melted away.
Still no snow. Cold ass shhh. I'm moving to a tropical island.
Cold ass shhh.
Yeah it is. Supposed to warm a a bit today anyway.
Cold ass shhh.
Yeah it is. Supposed to warm a a bit today anyway.
Geez, I hope so. If it ain't gonna snow then I want it to be warm enough to enjoy being outside.
Freezing cold, misty and damp.
Clear and cold. About 10F right now. Not gonna get much warmer.
Heavy rain and very windy.
Cold and rainy is the forecast for today.
Here too supposedly the "Norwegian storm" (as it was called in Sweden) were to come with heavy rain, wind and unseasonably high temperatures. As it happened no rain (in these parts of the woods), not too much wind, and unseasonably high temperatures. The weekend of cold and a little snow is long gone and forgotten, only warm weather as far as the forecasts can see.
It's snowing.
Cold, icy, rainy and snowy all day. An Alberta Clipper comes through Monday night/Tuesday morning, dumping up to 6 inches of snow and bitter cold before it's done with us.
Cold, icy, rainy and snowy all day. An Alberta Clipper comes through Monday night/Tuesday morning, dumping up to 6 inches of snow and bitter cold before it's done with us.
By the look of it we're going to get it by Wednesday / Thursday. Low in the 50s tonight, high 23 on Thursday.
Maybe we go for a repeat of last year's weather pattern? Last winter was a hot one in Northern Europe, and the local meteorologists tied it in with the polar vortex thingie making weather miserable in North America, that it shielded Scandinavia from the Russian/Siberian invasion of cold air, instead getting some South European warmth. And a hot summer followed a hot winter (in the map below red means hotter than usual, blue colder than usual), making for the claim that Norway had 'the world's best weather' last year.

No big changes in weather patterns have been forecast to my knowledge, but it is rather springlike outside (sunny, warm), not bad for the beginning of January.
I live in Northern Illinois-- actually, about 25 miles West of the lake. The map below speaks truth.
Right now, single digits above zero F. Tonight down to 5 below, and for the next several days it'll do good to get that warm.
(https://dndsanctuary.eu/imagecache.php?image=http%3A%2F%2Fi.imgur.com%2Ftt9PpIK.jpg&hash=12ea7bd32fbb70d5618e2237f04b1b1f" rel="cached" data-hash="12ea7bd32fbb70d5618e2237f04b1b1f" data-warn="External image, click here to view original" data-url="http://i.imgur.com/tt9PpIK.jpg)
The map might speak the truth about your weather, but here in Vegas it will be in the 60's all week. Tomorrow, we'll be flirting with the 70's (69, but it wouldn't be surprising if at least some places went above that.)
At the time that map was made, California hadn't gotten its most recent rains and snows either. The place was on fire. Now of course its raining and snowing, and mudslides are more likely than a firestorm.
Nevada here I come!!!
25 degrees this morning.
9°C, Heavy rain and winds reaching 70 mph. To call it a blustery day, would be an understatement.
Clear and cold. Zero F right now, that's our high for the day. Stupid cold tonight, double-digits below zero F according to the weather liars.
It didn't get as cold as they were saying, not that a couple of degrees buys you much when it's that cold out. It got to -8 F last night, should warm up to the 'teens today before dropping more snow on us from another Clipper tonight. This clipper goes North of us if the track they're showing is any indication so we'll only get an inch or so-- then more cold.
Yeah----- it IS getting that cold----.

Well, Hell is above freezing for the moment (http://www.yr.no/place/Norway/Nord-Tr%C3%B8ndelag/Stj%C3%B8rdal/Hell/).
Very strong winds, the tail end of yesterdays storms. Snowing heavily and very cold.
Hell has an extreme weather warning right now.
Part of the same storm system as Luxor no doubt. 20m (70') waves warned. Sometimes it's practical not to live in the sea.
Then again Oslo is listed in the extreme weather zone as well, and for Oslo that translates to "gentle breeze" (that city really has a sheltered existence). Here, a number of flying crows further to the east, we expect yet another storm bypass (some huffing and puffing after midnight, but nothing to be affected by).
It's a bit chilly at 2°C. Snow flurries of and on all morning, with warnings of worse to come.
Eh, 3 days of high 50s - low 60s, surely you'd expect snow flurries next?
Heavy snow. No surprise, as we were warned it was coming.
Aside from the wind, it's a fairly nice day. 61F

At this end of the state, this time of the year - absolutely yes.
I've got elevation envy. Y'all get all the damn snow. Bouncing temps are pretty standard, though.

Got some flurries, that's it so far. That, and crazy bouncing temperatures. Yesterday low 12F, tomorrow night low 44F, two days later it's down to 14F again. This year all the snow was dumped on New Brunswick and around the lakes.
Cold and rainy today. My favorite.
Cold, Overcast and pregnant with Rain. Thinking of Sunny Mallorca.
Snow! :)
Wasn't in the forecast and probably won't last but I'll take it.
Winter storm warning tomorrow night. Will we finally see some snow this winter? :right:
Four or five inches so far. Been a long time since I've had to plow the driveway.
Nice and sunny. pleasantly mild for the time of year.
We wanted snow and we got it! Single digits the next few days. Everyone has a snow day but me.
Snowing. Thought we had seen the last of that, should have known better.
27F and 2 more inches of snow on the ground.
Sooo looking forward to warmer weather.
Sooo looking forward to warmer weather.
Forecasted 50s and 60s thru next week. :D
Hi Cliff!
Drop over some time.
Rainy and 59°. Beats freezing. :)
Heavy snowfall last evening, but the good kind and time. Too late and not enough to leave a residue of ice, grime, and other impediments, just enough to add a sprinkle on things.

Strong winds, sunshine, rain and snow. It just can't make up it's mind what it wants to be.
Storms brought in cooler temps. 41° this morning.
It's a bit rough this afternoon.

Sunny and warm, as long as you stay out of the wind. Typical South Coast Autumn. Not bad surf for the next few weeks.
54º this morning.
In my home state of Michigan, it's 45º in Hell.
http://www.wunderground.com/weather-forecast/US/MI/Hell.html (http://www.wunderground.com/weather-forecast/US/MI/Hell.html)
Threat of rain. 84ºF
Rainy, about 85.
Hot and muggy. Had a fantastic thunder and lightning storm from midnight till about 1am.
Heavy snow. Such a nice change from the rain.
-2°F ( -18.8°C ) it feels colder than ice :eyes:
-15°F (-26°C). It's colder than the freezer in my refrigerator. :eyes:
13° and still no snow. :irked:
13° and still no snow. :irked:
Do you have the urge to build a snowman, or throw snowballs at someone. >:D
0°C Freezing cold and a day for sitting in front of a fire.

0°C Freezing cold and a day for sitting in front of a fire.
The urge is alive. Ahhhh! I probably shouldn't complain about the weather here, considering you're sitting at 0°. Does anything below 0° feel any different than 0° to you? Once it got into the negatives, when I lived in WI, it didn't feel any colder to me. Sometimes the negatives felt warmer even when the wind was the same speed.
Does anything below 0° feel any different than 0° to you?
Nope! It all feels the same when you're freezing cold. (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/253164678/cold.gif)
2°C today, feels like a heatwave. (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/253164678/Grinning.gif)
Well. 0(C) would be nice right now actually. 12(F) es no bueno.
Snow! :)
(Yay, that makes the cold more bearable.)
Snow! :)
(Yay, that makes the cold more bearable.)
Indeed
The other day Nushie (one of our cats) was so enthralled by the white outside world that she didn't come to eat breakfast for a few minutes.
Eek. Power has been out for about 4 hours. 6 inches of snow and still going. :worried:
Oy! That's awful. :( Hope it comes back on soon!
We went from a dusting of snow to 11 inches in less than 12 hours. There's no happy medium in Tennessee.
Eek. Power has been out for about 4 hours. 6 inches of snow and still going. :worried:
Hope you get the power back before bedtime :eyes:
Thx guys. They ended up getting it back on by 2-3pm. About 800-900 ppl were without power in town at the peak of the storm. We got a good dose of ice over night compounded by a blizzard (at least by TN standards) that brought down some lines. Not the most snow I've ever seen here but most over the short time it took. I left to go get some kerosene and by the time I made it back to my road you couldn't see where the road was. I got to guess where by driving between the electric poles. What's so bad is I passed one of the city's plow trucks on the way out. They were trying to keep the roads clear anyway. A couple of transformers blew out as they tried to make the power connection back but after 30mins of flickering followed by booms they finally got it.
What they showed on the TV here looked pretty wild.
Supposed to get up to 50F today. Almost there now. Lol, craziness.
71 with storms coming :D
Blizzard with blowing snow.
1° C light showers, dark and wet :irked:
( Oh and I stole that degree symbol, :-[ won't do it again )
( Oh and I stole that degree symbol, :-[ won't do it again )
:))
1°C and snowing heavily at the moment.
-2 C clear and sunshine, springish... :)
68° :D
Freezing cold and snowing. It's the middle of April and it's snowing, as if it's the middle of winter. (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/253164678/ShockedFaint.gif)
Summer! And rain and some more rain...
16C partly cloudy... clearing right now at the evening.
Actually not too bad weather lately, warm and sunny days also.
Hot 26°C and the sun is blazing in the sky. Far too hot for my liking though.
It's 30° here. I mind less than my wife. I just get sweaty, but on our honeymoon in Italy she actually overheated a few times.
on our honeymoon in Italy she actually overheated a few times.
My wife overheated on our honeymoon too, not because of the weather though. :P
Thunder and lightning storm all day so far and the rain is pouring down.
Most of our hotel rooms were air-conditioned.
It's cloudy here, and 32°. Better than this morning, when it was sunny and 25°.
Blowing snow mixed with rain. I rather have a decent light snow flurries than a blowing wet snow & rain :eyes:
-1°F/-18°C and windchill at -20°F/-29°C :eyes:
1°C Snowing quite heavily. First real snowfall this winter for us.
Tallinn, Estonia: Currently 34°F / 1°C , humidity: 93%, wind: South at 6 mph / 9 km/h , conditions: Light Rain. Tuesday's forecast: Chance of Rain. High: 4° C.
Actually wet snow right now.
...the greenhouse model describes climate like a pot of water: On constant added fuel, water will reach a boiling temperature. When the boiling temperature has been reached, water does not become hotter anymore. Instead, it becomes turbulent and it will blow away the lid of the pot.
Record cold for May last week. Record heat for May this week. Confirmation bias.
Yup, pretty warm.
Hot and sunny, ice cream weather.
It's something like 26/27 degrees.
30 degrees at the end of October, no rain, sunny days.
Summer nights.
This is not normal.
Here it's 9°, which is within the normal range but the fact that it froze at night two days ago is a bit on the unusually cold side for the time of year.
16F°/ -8.9C°. A bit colder than usual.
6°C (~43° F). Possibly also a bit colder than usual.
It went from 50°F/ 10°C to 20°F/ -6.6°C the next day :eyes:
-4°F ( -20°C). A very cold Christmas Day :eyes:
Cold and frosty with snow on the ground.
Pretty warm 6°.
-15°F ( -26°C ) I'm wearing 3 layers of socks and a fleece blanket instead of a scarf when I go out in the cold :eyes:
Still warm, 7
Temperature went from -15°F ( -24°C ) last week to 40°F ( 4.4°C ) today.
12°F ( -11°C ). Heavy snow but no wind, so it is actually pleasant.
Rain at 6° C!
Snowing like it's never snowed before. It snowed all night and it's still coming down. The beast from the East as it has been christened by the media. :faint:
We've just been informed that the town is likely to be cut off as the roads are all closed, nothing getting in or out.
Another blizzard. Luckily the buses are running.
Another blizzard. Luckily the buses are running.
Can you keep it over there please. ;)
Blizzard in mid April :yikes:
90°F ( 33.3°C )
68° F this morning. Rain coming.
Trump still prez.
Today, rain and church bells!
It's been a terribly hot May. Refreshing rain and thunder reached Latvia for a while, but no further :(
Rain. Again. FFS.
Lots of rain!
Lots of snow! https://news.err.ee/1057268/tallinn-woman-killed-by-snow-removing-tractor
And the first coronavirus case! https://news.err.ee/1057279/coronavirus-carrier-traveled-with-lux-express-from-riga-to-tallinn
We had snow too. And a second case of the virus I think.
We've had lots of rain and flooding. Now they are promising more rain and some snow thrown into the mix.
Wow, sunny and +10C. Just last Saturday it snowed...
