Title: Would You Turn Down a Knighthood or a Damehood?
Post by: Jimbro3738 on 2014-03-19, 15:37:04
DAVID BOWIE, L.S. LOWRY, ALFRED DEAKIN, ROBERT MORLEY, ALDOUS HUXLEY, DORIS LESSING, HENRY MOORE and MICHAEL FARADAY did.

JOHN LENNON turned down an MBE.
=============================
Personally, I never turn down anything if it's free.

Definitely would refuse one, not that I'm ever likely to be offered one.

I don't think they offer knighthoods/damehoods this side of the Big Puddle-- unless maybe in Canada. In any case, I think the law says I can't accept such an honor from a foreign government as an American citizen. I could be wrong of course.

I think I would accept any honour I was offered, except a Papal knighthood.
Never hoppen, of course.

There's a first time for almost everything, although I find that one hard to believe.

My dear ex-colonist I must enlighten you a bit further. Getting an MBE, OBE,, etc is NOT a knighthood. You become a "Sir" with a knighthood and if going to the Lords you become equally a Lord. Different from getting a medal and the MBE or OBE after your name. In my personal world a very good friend of mine over in Ulster was given the OBE for services to The Boys' Brigade and another man I know got the lower MBE and above both is the CBE. All deserving and they don't just go the those higher up these days some very ordinary people in long ordinary positions have neen awarded them.There is yet another who was Knighed by Her Majesty to become a Sir. And yep you get touched on the shoulders with a sword.

1. We are not ex-colonists. We're active colonists.

2. I knew that because Google makes us smart.
