Wherever you live there is an idiot occupying a government office. Share with us some of the stupid things he or she has said or done.

The following are some of the daft things that the Vice President of the U.S. has said during his tenure in office.
=================================================================
"Folks, I can tell you I've known eight presidents, three of them intimately." --Joe Biden, Aug. 22, 2012

“Look at what they [Republicans] value, and look at their budget. And look what they're proposing. [Romney] said in the first 100 days, he's going to let the big banks write their own rules -- unchain Wall Street. They're going to put y'all back in chains." --Joe Biden, speaking to a largely African-American audience in Danville, Va., Aug. 14, 2012

"My mother believed and my father believed that if I wanted to be president of the United States, I could be, I could be Vice President!" --Joe Biden, campaigning in Youngstown, Ohio, May 16, 2012

"I promise you, the president has a big stick. I promise you." --Joe Biden, citing Theodore Roosevelt's famous quote, "Speak softly and carry a big stick; you will go far." (April 26, 2012)

"This is a big fucking deal!" --Joe Biden, caught on an open mic congratulating President Barack Obama during the health care signing ceremony, Washington, D.C., March 23, 2010

"His mom lived in Long Island for ten years or so. God rest her soul. And- although, she's- wait- your mom's still- your mom's still alive. Your dad passed. God bless her soul." --Joe Biden, on the mother of Irish Prime Minister Brian Cowen, who is very much alive, Washington, D.C., March 17, 2010

"I wouldn't go anywhere in confined places now. … When one person sneezes it goes all the way through the aircraft. That's me. I would not be, at this point, if they had another way of transportation, suggesting they ride the subway." --Joe Biden, providing handy tips to protect against the swine flu and freaking us out , "Today Show" interview, April 30, 2009

"An hour late, oh give me a f**king break." –Joe Biden, caught on a live mic speaking to a former Senate colleague after arriving on Amtrak at Union Station in Washington, D.C., March 13, 2009

"You know, I'm embarrassed. Do you know the Web site number? I should have it in front of me and I don't. I'm actually embarrassed." –Joe Biden, speaking to an aide standing out of view during an interview on CBS' "Early Show," in the midst of encouraging viewers to visit a government-run Web site that tracks stimulus spending, Feb. 25, 2009

"If we do everything right, if we do it with absolute certainty, there's still a 30% chance we're going to get it wrong." --Joe Biden, speaking to members of the House Democratic caucus who were gathered in Williamsburg, Va., for their annual retreat, Feb. 6, 2009

"Am I doing this again? For the senior staff? My memory is not as good as Chief Justice Roberts'." --Joe Biden, mocking Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts' botched effort to swear in Barack Obama as Biden was set to swear in White House senior staff one day after the Inauguration snafu, Washington, D.C., Jan. 21, 2009

"Jill and I had the great honor of standing on that stage, looking across at one of the great justices, Justice Stewart." –Joe Biden, mistakenly referring to Justice John Paul Stevens, who swore him in as vice president, Washington, D.C., Jan. 20, 2009

"Look, John's last-minute economic plan does nothing to tackle the number-one job facing the middle class, and it happens to be, as Barack says, a three-letter word: jobs. J-O-B-S, jobs." --Joe Biden, Athens, Ohio, Oct. 15, 2008

"When the stock market crashed, Franklin D. Roosevelt got on the television and didn't just talk about the, you know, the princes of greed. He said, 'Look, here's what happened." –Joe Biden, apparently unaware that FDR wasn't president when the stock market crashed in 1929 and that only experimental TV sets were in use at that time, interview with Katie Couric, Sept. 22, 2008

"Stand up, Chuck, let 'em see ya." –-Joe Biden, to Missouri state Sen. Chuck Graham, who is in a wheelchair, Columbia, Missouri, Sept. 12, 2008

"Hillary Clinton is as qualified or more qualified than I am to be vice president of the United States of America. Quite frankly, it might have been a better pick than me." --Joe Biden, speaking at a town hall meeting in Nashua, New Hampshire, Sept. 10, 2008

"A man I'm proud to call my friend. A man who will be the next President of the United States — Barack America!" --Joe Biden, at his first campaign rally with Barack Obama after being announced as his running mate, Springfield, Ill., Aug. 23, 2008

Can't remember his name but he was the Vice-President of the USA under Bush senior. On television he was visiting a school and mildly ticked a child off for spelling but when he wrote the word 'potato' up on the board it was misspelt. He never looked very bright and looked weird especially in the eyes.

Dan Quayle, God help us. Slightly more intelligent than a doorknob, it was a blessing that GHWB didn't die in office.

For some reason, presidential candidates seem to make a point of selecting the least possible qualified candidates to be their running mates. For those who want to see Barak Obama impeached--- try saying "President Biden" without choking.

You lot over there in the would-be world dictatorship really are really jealous. President Putin has an 80% popularity rate for all your elementary and juvenile sniping. When did you last have someone with that rate? It is the same old ex-colonist trait based on the premise that if you cannot control a countr or it's leader, snipe or invade but this is one corner you will never succeed in so eat your heart out boys.  :P

That's the great thing about being a dictator. You can get the approval rating you want-- or else.

Now, I'm aware that Russia isn't a dictatorship these days. The old ways die hard though, and memories of what happened if you didn't enthusiastically support the powers-that-be are still strong enough to make sure numbers are high there.

Here--- taking pot-shots at the President is just what always happens, regardless of who is in the White House. If he can get a halfway decent "honeymoon" period right after election, he's accomplished something. After that, he takes the slings and arrows of the pundits, and his approval ratings plummet.

I'm not in opposition to Tony Abbot, or even Vlad Putin… These are political leaders "beyond" my country.
But the "suppository of" used to refer to anything besides -as Tony did, in a public speech- anal insertion of medications strikes me as — Oh! Wait…*
The Vice President of the United States was asked to mediate a spelling bee. He was given cue cards, and —silly he!— followed them: The "real" experts told him that the plural of potato was potatoes… (He should have put a young person on the spot: Asked them if their teachers were liberals or conservatives!) He read what was on the card given him (by these teachers and scholars…), and has since been vilified: As a dunce!
You-all, who think you're smarter: Think again.

Did he just mis-speak? Do we nowadays burn at the stake someone who lisps?
What is it, with you Liberals? Are you after Mrs. Malaprop — as if she's our greatest danger? :)

Well, he's used to dealing with the liberal mind-set, the left-leaning cadre, the faux intellectuals — who'd like to control everything, that he sometimes gets flummoxed
Vote him out, if you will. But you'll likely get greater "idiots" in his place… (You've already ignored their idiocies for generations, so do your worst!)
———————————————————————
* Maybe -like a few posters, here stated- he's referring to the location of Liberal (or Progressive) brains… After all, if that's where brains reside then that's how they should be accessed… :)
(You'll forgive me, if I don't frig you, whoever you are.)

Well I have already highlighted that Vice-President as it happens and as for the rest of us leaning towards being the same I disagree. Why President Bush wanted him is beyond comprehension. It wasn't just on spuds it was his whole demeanour and reactions to things and he illustrated every time he spoke on an issue he was an amateur in a professional area. It became as obvious as the nose on a face he was very much out of his depth and not of the calibre required for such an office.

Nope! It was only "obvious" to the boobs who got their cues from the boob-tube… (Of course, you wouldn't know about that — Pravda was still a hard-copy publication, then. :) ) It's amazing, how many people who don't have a clue think their own estimations of the intelligence or qualifications or effectiveness of public figures are defensible — because other bobble-heads nod along with them!

Oak, you may be the only person I ever heard of who thought Dan Quayle had anything upstairs besides cobwebs. Even most conservatives at the time questioned GHWB's choice of running mate, as I recall.

Quayle seems to have had a history of somehow getting elected to offices he was unqualified for, then managing not to mess things up too bad so he could stay on. He might have been President if GHWB had died in office-- no other way of course, he couldn't have won election even if his opponent had been a coat-rack-- but it is a great blessing as it happens that GHWB served a full term so we didn't have to suffer "President Quayle".

Call me an idiot if you want but-- I've been watching what our professionals-- particularly at the CDC-- have been doing, and I think being scared might be the appropriate response. Curly, Larry and Moe couldn't do the job worse.

Look, this ebola thing is an epidemic in West Africa. If it's as hard to catch as Obama was saying in his message, how can that be? Then we have serious mis-steps going on here in Dallas, and -- if you wanted an epidemic to get started here, that would be a good way to do it. Don't train the first-responders so they have no idea what they're dealing with, allow people who have been possibly contaminated to travel at will, only get on top of the situation after the thing is nearly out of control and so on. By now, I don't blame anybody for going full-metal Katsung on this ebola scare. It looks like our health professionals are at the very least incompetent, if not criminally culpable.

We can't take credit for that spider which may or may not eat birds (it's in South America) but we do have a lot of creatures that believe mankind is a mistake and should be exterminated.
Lots of deadly snakes, lots of deadly spiders, lots of deadly sharks, lots of deadly jellyfish, some deadly octopods, and even deadly ticks.
Under my house there are numerous Funnel-web spiders, whose determined bite injects enough venom to kill fifteen big, strong men.
A neighbour was bitten twice a couple of days ago and survived. Apparently neither bite injected any venom. This is not uncommon. It is as if the bites were a warning.
It puzzles me what use to the spider is this incredible firepower. It is not that a spider can devour fifteen men at a sitting. It doesn't eat any small part of any human, dead or alive, or even suck its blood. Some small creatures (none of which the spider eats) are all but immune to its venom.
It is, as a famous royal personage once said, "a puzzlement".

(I'm deliberately ignoring you injunction!)
Siam that Siam…
Funnel-web spiders, whose determined bite injects enough venom to kill fifteen big, strong men

…had it occurred to you, that they weren't "determined"?!

It could be their peacock's tail. "Look how poisonous I am!" ;)

Including this creature.

Different venoms affect different creatures in different ways. It's probably just enough to immobilize and liquefy the spider's favourite snack.

Maybe they used to snack on blue whales and were stranded in Australia when the blue whales were hunted to near extinction?

Unlike dictatorships America is meant to be a democracy but getting a high poll rate is nigh impossible these day. Must be a more indepth reason? In the West we get increasingly cynical and that leads to indifference in political systems.

By now, I don't blame anybody for going full-metal Katsung on this ebola scare. It looks like our health professionals are at the very least incompetent, if not criminally culpable.

When Ebola becomes epidemic in the US, call me out. It's about as likely as an ISIS candidate being elected president in '16. And that's as likely as Romney being elected. :o

We have a total of three cases in the US. with one death and another that apparently actually doesn't have the virus anymore. More on it (http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/646513/number-of-ebola-cases-nears-10000-who) People from the effected countries can on fly into one of five airports that have additional screening and travelers from those three countries will undergo active monitoring for 21 days.

It's terrible for those people Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea. They have a real crises. The bigger story in the US is how the disease is being exploited by the media and politicians.

Answering bolded section: Some people think we already have done that. The person presently warming the chair in the Oval Office has had his possible Muslim connections argued ad nauseum on talk-radio.

Ebola is a very real and present threat, not to Americans and Europeans, but to West Africans. Efforts should be (should have been) made where they make a difference, namely fighting the disease, not in measures of dubious value and much higher cost.

Or as put in The Guardian, We need to stop talking about Ebola like it’s just another Dustin Hoffman germ-thriller (http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2014/oct/14/ebola-not-another-dustin-hoffman-germ-thriller#start-of-comments)

Quote
Somehow, in America at least, we seem to be taking Ebola both too seriously and not seriously enough. Rightwing xenophobes rage about closing the borders and impeaching #OBOLA (heads up, white Americans: if anyone has a track record of deliberately introducing devastating diseases to the North American continent in order to wipe out the population, it’s not half-Kenyan lawyers), while the rest of us titter proprietarily over the gory doom that we know will almost certainly never touch us; meanwhile, we’ve skimped on funding infectious disease research ever since the 90s Ebola scare lost its lurid lustre, and healthcare workers are paying the price. As Wired reported on Monday: “If there were more infection-prevention research, the nurse in Dallas (and probably the one in Spain, who may have contaminated herself doffing her gear) might not have become infected.” Not only that, but Francis Collins, director of the National Institutes of Health, says that, if it wasn’t for funding cuts, we would probably have an Ebola vaccine by now.

Sooo … do we learn from that? Are we going to invest in medical equipment that protects doctors and nurses from contamination? Procedures that minimise human error? Education campaigns about the dangers of antibiotic-resistant bacteria? Or even, um, a functioning healthcare system? Anything constructive? Nah, said John McCain on Sunday. Instead, he suggested, Obama should appoint an Ebola tsar to assuage Americans’ superficial, borderline recreational anxieties about a disease that mainly affects people in west Africa living in extreme poverty without access to clean water and modern medical facilities, along with the underfunded, understaffed medical personnel desperately battling the epidemic. Not to mention the fact that the Obama administration almost certainly has not just appointed officials but entire agencies to contain Ebola in the US (if I learned anything from Outbreak, Rene Russo is also on the case), and that McCain’s party hates tsars, government oversight in general and probably Rene Russo, too.

Perhaps John McCain and his cohort ought to invest in a Get a Grip tsar.

I think there was a panic reaction as is usual over the pond duue to the traditional emotionalism there. Now the nurse who was forced into isolation has won her case against a Governor as she had no systems of the thing.

Tony Abbott, the Prime Minister of Australia (a country that abolished Imperial honours  some years ago) has awarded Prince Phillip a knighthood.
Abbott has done a lot of foolish and bizarre things but nothing prepared us for this.
