Otter Browser Forum / [wish] Desktop actions
Hi! Cześć!

I'm glad Otter supports Desktop/jump-list actions in KDE.
Alas, it was a very bad design decision by KDE to define them in the .desktop file - after every update actions defined by the user are gone, overwritten. For me this sucks especially for Dolphin, where the jump lists are very handy for opening some places.
So, in Otter I lose my selfdefined actions too. For that reason I want to suggest that Otter ships a few often used ones already in the desktop file - it won't bother people who don't use them, but will be of use for those who do.

Actions=private;portable;

[Desktop Action private]
Name=Private Session
Name[de]=Private Sitzung
Exec=otter-browser --private-session

[Desktop Action portable]
Name=Portable Session
Name[de]=Portable Sitzung
Exec=otter-browser --portable-session

etc.

Otter Browser Forum / Re: bugs
The dropdown-lists of the back/forward buttons have stopped working for me some weeks ago (I'm now on weekly 127; Linux x64, Qt 5.6.1), holding the buttons just does nothing.

After the switch from build 109 to 116 the crash I had with the Breeze style in KDE is gone!
But now I have Oxygen icons instead of Breeze ones?!

@Emdek

Thanks, changing the style from Breeze to Oxygen prevents the crashes. I'll test from time to time whether it remains with upcoming releases.
The Qt setting you mention is absent from KDE5, BTW.

Otter Browser Forum / Re: bugs
After the update of KDE to Plasma 5.5.1, Frameworks 5.17 and KDE 15.12 (but with Qt staying 5.5.1) I have now encountered a very nasty behavior with build #102: Closing or opening a tab crashes Otter...

Here ist the output of gdb, but it is no debug build, so I have to rebuild it first, but maybe it alerady helps:

Edit:

I now know how to reproduce it: Every time the speed dial is shown (either by opening a new empty tab or by closing the last open tab) Otter crashes, other tab-related actions work well.

I also made a new build with debug enabled. Here is what QrCreator told me aboutit:

On my other system (same software, other hardware) Otter works just fine.

Otter Browser Forum / Re: Beta 8 release (01-12-2015)

@Kirilo, what exactly do you mean by "typing shortcuts"?
I could try to reproduce that, which Qt version are you using?

I mean the shortcuts/tags you can give to bookmarks. I use e.g. "ott" to go to otter-browser.org. When I type them now into the address bar of course the new autocompletion gives its propositions, and sometimes it just crashes Otter, either before or after I've pressed Enter.

I just started Otter from the command line in order to get some output. In fact I had a crash, but the output states just:
Code: [Select]

Debug: QNetworkReplyImpl::_q_startOperation was called more than once ((null):0, (null))
Warning: QLineEdit::setSelection: Invalid start position (29) ((null):0, (null))
Speicherzugriffsfehler (Speicherabzug geschrieben)

The first two lines appeared right after the start, the error message means "memory segfault".
My Qt version is 5.5.1.

Otter Browser Forum / Re: Beta 8 release (01-12-2015)
I'm experiencing quite a lot of crashes when typing shortcuts (I have a lot for the lack of auto complietion before Beta8), but I cannot reproduce them exactly, it's more like every 10th time something goes wrong. Anyone else?

Otter Browser Forum / Re: Weekly #100
URL autocompletion, yeah!  :hat:  :cheers:  :drunk:  :yes: My biggest thanks!

The only odd thing I found until now is that on the start page http://en.lernu.net/ all links are purple as if visited, which I did not do. But I haven't encountered this on other pages until now, so nothing important.

Edit: Same behavior on a google results page and on Reddit.

OK, that worked.

With the test kit, imgur makes cpu usage go up to 22% in the beginning, but it drops and the program is usable.
With Otter+imgur, the cpu goes up to 25% leaving Otter unresponsive - not totally frozen, but so slow that I have to close it in order to do  anything.

Otter Browser Forum / Re: bugs

@Kirilo, can you reproduce that using this?
https://github.com/OtterBrowser/test-qtwebkit

I tried to compile, but make failed:

Quote
/usr/bin/uic MainWindow.ui -o ui_MainWindow.h
g++ -c -pipe -march=x86-64 -mtune=generic -O2 -pipe -fstack-protector-strong --param=ssp-buffer-size=4 -g -fvar-tracking-assignments -Wall -W -D_REENTRANT -DQT_NO_DEBUG -DQT_WEBKIT_LIB -DQT_GUI_LIB -DQT_CORE_LIB -DQT_SHARED -I/usr/share/qt/mkspecs/linux-g++ -I. -I/usr/include/QtCore -I/usr/include/QtGui -I/usr/include/QtWebKit -I/usr/include -I. -I. -o main.o main.cpp

Otter Browser Forum / Re: bugs
Yes, you're right. My PC is rather old so that the difference between freeze and big lag is quite small.
17
Otter Browser Forum / Re: bugs
Following a link to a picture imgur.com (not the homepage, though) like e.g. http://imgur.com/8IttZMp reliably makes Otter freeze.
Does anyone else have this problem? If not, I'll try to provide more detailed information.

Otter Browser Forum / Re: Beta 7 release (01-09-2015)
Yes, I'm talking about the source file (I'm on Linux and compile from source), until now the sorce files with tar.bz2 compression had about 1.8MB, now the Beta7 has 26.8MB (but the zip only 3MB), what has happened?

Otter Browser Forum / Re: bugs

Just updated to build #72 from build #71 and "Open in a New Background Tab" now always loads in a Foreground Tab.

For me (build #72 in Linux) it works as expected.
But since a few builds now (can't say since when exactly, after #66) I can't open a downloaded file or its folder from the "downloads" panel or page. I haven't filed a bug report, as usually such glitches disappear after 1-2 builds, but it's for longer time now.

Otter Browser Forum / Re: bugs
I haven't been able to visit the page academia.edu for weeks now. There is always an error message:
"Something went wrong!
Sorry. We're taking a look at the problem right now."
I've deleted all cookies from academia.edu and switched off content blocking, but this didn't help. There is no problem to access the site with rekonq or other browsers. Strange.  :sherlock:

Otter Browser Forum / Re: "Should I stay or should I go?"
Vivaldi is probably closed source, no native UI - what has this browser to offer for me?

Please keep up your good work, I'm already using Otter as my default browser, and as soon as speed dial, notes, and a better address bar suggestion are there, I'll uninstall Opera 12 and migrate my wife's PC too!  :hat:
